LEE ASHURST AND THE SHOCKING SEXUAL ABUSE IN KENT

A man convicted of heinous and deeply disturbing sexual offenses against two young girls has been sentenced to 16 years in prison. Lee Ashurst, aged 29 and residing on Parr Avenue in Gillingham, faced the court on charges related to his depraved conduct and was found guilty of each count after a rigorous trial.

The court heard that Ashurst, who denied six charges of child rape, was convicted by a jury composed of nine women and three men, with a majority verdict of 10-2. His conviction comes after graphic testimonies from the victims, both of whom were young girls, who detailed in vivid and unsettling terms the extent of Ashurst's sexual misconduct.

During the sentencing hearing at Maidstone Crown Court, Judge Jeremy Carey emphasized the gravity of the offenses. He stated that the jury had to listen firsthand to the chilling accounts of the young victims, who described Ashurst’s actions as 'appalling and depraved.' The judge remarked, 'Each of them described how you indulged yourself in the most appalling way.' He further noted that although the girls were too young at the time to fully comprehend the severity of what had happened, their innocence makes the betrayal even more devastating.

Judge Carey pointed out that the psychological impact on the victims will likely be profound and enduring. He said, 'The impact on them I judge to be significant. When they do understand it is likely to be enormous and long-lasting.' The ripple effect of this trauma will not only affect the victims but will also be felt by their families, who will carry the shock and pain for many years.

Ashurst’s defense team described their client’s actions as part of a pattern of horrific behavior, emphasizing the disturbing and 'appalling' nature of his conduct. It was noted that Ashurst, who is reportedly of low IQ, will be on the sex offenders' register for life and will be prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults.

Upon sentencing, Ashurst was led away to begin serving his term. As he was taken into custody, Judge Carey addressed the jury members, some of whom were visibly emotional. He expressed appreciation for their service, remarking, 'I turn to you with some feelings of anxiety. This case must have put you through an ordeal. It is your misfortune you had to sit on this case. Others have been through the ordeal you have had to go through.'

He added, 'I don't suppose it will come to an end for some time. You have done your duty. After the dreadfulness of the evidence, you can sense that justice has been done.' To the jurors and the public, he also offered a somber reminder: 'Forget about this as best you can.'
