LEAH BEST AND DEAN NEVIN FROM PRESCOT SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL NEGLECT AND ABANDONMENT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Prescot, Leah Best, born on August 5, 1999, and Dean Daniel Christopher Nevin, born around 1996, faced justice after abandoning their dogs in a state of severe neglect following a heated argument.The incident unfolded at their residence on Hughes Avenue, Prescot, where the couple’s neglectful actions led to the suffering and death of innocent animals.
Prosecutor Peter Mitchell presented harrowing evidence during the court proceedings, including photographs of the couple’s flat, which had been left deserted for at least two months, spanning from July to September 2023.
The RSPCA, alerted by the distressing sounds of dogs trapped inside, enlisted the help of Merseyside Police to gain entry into the property on September 19.
Upon entry, officers discovered a distressing scene: a Staffy crossbreed named Lilly, along with her three puppies, was found confined on a filthy mattress surrounded by urine and faeces.
The court was told that the animals appeared emaciated, with clear signs of skin conditions caused by prolonged neglect.
Tragically, one of the puppies was found dead beneath its mother, Lilly.
