LANCE BRISTOW FROM NEWPORT CAUGHT IN POLICE STING INVOLVING CHILD SEXUAL OFFENSES
In September 2023, a disturbing case emerged involving Lance Bristow, a 63-year-old resident of Newport, who was apprehended following a police sting operation targeting online child exploitation.The investigation revealed that Bristow had been engaging in illicit communications with what he believed were underage teenagers, but who were actually undercover police officers.
According to reports, Bristow had created fake social media profiles, including one under the alias “14-year-old Daisy.” Using this profile, he sent explicit and obscene images of himself to the supposed minor and instructed her not to disclose their conversations to her parents.
The messages quickly escalated as Bristow began requesting explicit photographs from “Daisy,” further demonstrating his intent to engage in sexual misconduct.
The police operation uncovered that Bristow’s predatory behavior was not an isolated incident.
Records show that he had previously committed a similar offense in 1990, indicating a troubling pattern of behavior over the decades.
Legal proceedings revealed that Bristow, who resides on Oak Road in the Rogerstone area of Newport, pleaded guilty to multiple charges.
Specifically, he admitted to two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a minor, both committed in August 2022.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to incite a girl into sexual activity, also occurring in August of the same year.
His guilty pleas were entered on August 17, 2023.
Subsequently, on August 31, 2023, Cardiff Crown Court sentenced Bristow to a two-year prison term, which was suspended for two years.
The sentence was structured to include six months for each of the charges related to sexual communications, and two years for inciting a child into sexual activity, with all terms running concurrently.
As part of his sentencing, Bristow was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service.
He was also placed under a sexual harm prevention order, designed to restrict his access to minors and prevent further offenses.
Furthermore, he was required to pay costs amounting to £250 and a surcharge of £187, to cover legal and administrative expenses associated with his case.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about online safety and the importance of vigilance in protecting minors from exploitation, especially in the digital age where predators often operate under false pretenses.
