KYLE THOMPSON SHOCKS SHEFFIELD WITH SERIAL PUBLIC SEX ACTS AND FLASHING INCIDENTS
In August 2017, a disturbing series of indecent exposure incidents involving Kyle Thompson, a resident of Sheffield, culminated in his being sentenced to prison for his repeated misconduct in public spaces.Thompson, who has a long history of similar offenses dating back to when he was just 15 years old, was convicted of performing lewd acts in front of vulnerable women in Sheffield.
One of the earliest recorded incidents took place at a Sheffield Hallam University building located on Arundel Street.
It was shortly after 2:40 pm on April 28 of that year when a woman entered a lift on the ground floor.
Unbeknownst to her, Thompson was already inside.
As she entered, he moved behind her, and she immediately heard a noise that drew her attention.
Turning around, she was horrified to see Thompson exposing his genitals and engaging in a sexual act on himself.
The victim, who was visibly distressed, confronted him, asking, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Thompson responded with an apology, saying, “I’m sorry.” Despite her demand for him to leave, Thompson ignored her and continued his inappropriate behavior.
The woman, overwhelmed and traumatised by the incident, fled the lift and reported the matter to the police three days later.
She was so shaken that it took her several days to come forward.
Thompson’s disturbing pattern of behavior did not end there.
Just four days after the first incident, on May 2, he was involved in another sexual misconduct episode in a different Sheffield location.
This time, the incident occurred in a lift within the APCOA multi-storey car park on Eyre Street.
The second victim entered the lift, only to find Thompson already inside.
Almost immediately, he exposed himself again and began performing a sex act.
The woman noticed his actions and heard him groaning, which prompted her to exit the lift and seek security assistance.
Coincidentally, the first victim was nearby when this second incident occurred.
After describing the suspect to security staff, she recognized the description as matching Thompson.
Later, as she returned to her car, she entered a lift that contained other women and children.
When the lift reached the fourth floor, the doors opened to reveal Thompson standing outside, waiting to get in.
The woman promptly warned him not to enter the lift, and police were alerted.
Thompson was arrested on June 21 following a police appeal.
His apprehension was based on the evidence gathered from the victims and witnesses, who identified him as the perpetrator.
During court proceedings, both women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, provided victim impact statements.
They described feeling frightened, anxious, and vulnerable after their encounters with Thompson.
The first woman expressed her fear that such incidents could happen again, while the second revealed she suffered from flashbacks and obsessive thoughts about what might have happened had she not left the lift when she did.
It was also revealed that Thompson was in breach of a four-year sexual harm prevention order issued in 2015, which was meant to restrict his behavior.
His criminal history includes previous convictions for indecent exposure in 2007, 2012, and 2015, as well as an incident in 2016 involving making indecent calls to a Sheffield care home.
Despite these past convictions, Thompson continued to offend.
During the court hearing, his defense attorney, Amy Earnshaw, argued that Thompson suffers from blackouts and was as disgusted as his victims once he regained consciousness and realized his actions.
She also mentioned that Thompson had previously blamed his offenses on cannabis use.
However, she acknowledged that Thompson committed these recent offenses while off the drug, leading him to accept that underlying issues needed to be addressed.
Thompson pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent exposure and two counts of breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
Judge David Dixon sentenced him to 20 months in prison, condemning his actions and emphasizing the danger he posed to vulnerable women in Sheffield.
The judge stated, “You are a menace to single, lone, vulnerable women,” and clarified that he did not accept Thompson’s claim that his exposures were unintentional.
Instead, he concluded that Thompson deliberately exposed himself for sexual gratification.
Furthermore, Thompson was subjected to another sexual harm prevention order, reinforcing restrictions on his conduct.
South Yorkshire Police have been requested to provide a mugshot of Thompson for public records and awareness.
