THUG KYLE SMITH BEHIND BARS
A man described as a 'pathetic bully' who assaulted his former partner by kicking in her door twice while she was hiding in a wardrobe has been sentenced to prison.Kyle Owen Smith, aged 26 and formerly residing at South Holme Court in Northampton, made multiple attempts to re-enter his ex-partner’s house in the Billing area during the early hours of Monday, August 17, 2021.
He forcibly entered by kicking the front door, and shortly after the occupants left, he returned and again kicked open the boarding covering the door.
Local police officers responded swiftly, deploying numerous resources from Northamptonshire Police’s Control Room.
During the police pursuit, Smith fled the scene by hopping over fences in an effort to escape, even as officers and PD Olly tracked him.
Further details of the chase can be found elsewhere.
Eventually, Smith was apprehended and faced charges.
On Tuesday, August 18, at Northampton Crown Court, he admitted guilt and received a sentence of 40 weeks for violating a restraining order that was suspended, plus an additional 12 weeks for the incident on August 17, totaling one year behind bars.
PC Glyn Humphries commented: “When we heard that Kyle Smith had returned just minutes after police officers had left the scene having boarded up the door, a large number of resources were sent to catch him once and for all and put him behind bars for the safety of this woman and others.
“He, like so many domestic abusers, is a bully, and bullies rely on fear.
This fear gives them a false perception of their own power and a belief that they can act with impunity.
Not in this county.
“When faced with a suite of police officers, a working German Shepherd and the threat of Taser, he gave himself up.
“Tackling domestic abuse is one of Northamptonshire Police’s priorities and we are absolutely determined to do everything we can to safeguard and support victims whilealso putting the offenders in prison.
I hope this case demonstrates that unwavering resolve.” Northamptonshire Police’s local policing commander, Kevin Mulling, used Twitter to address Smith’s actions, stating: "12-months jail to work out how “hard” he is and what a “big-man” he was to beat up his partner.
Pathetic bullies like this have no place in society & no place in our county." A police spokeswoman added: “If you have a Kyle Smith in your life, please contact us because we can help.
You deserve better.”
