KYLE JAGO AND SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENCES IN LIVERPOOL AND BURY
A man from Merseyside, Kyle Jago, has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a series of disturbing sexual offences involving a vulnerable teenage girl from Bury. The case was heard at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Wednesday, where Jago, aged 24, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to his inappropriate conduct.
Jago, who resides on Higher Road in Halewood, had established contact with the 15-year-old girl via social media in May of this year.
Following this online interaction, he arranged to meet her in person later that month.
Once together, Jago proceeded to manipulate and groom the young girl, engaging in actions that included exchanging sexually explicit images, an act that demonstrated a calculated attempt to establish a controlling and inappropriate relationship.
The prosecution, led by Peter Cadwallader, provided details to the court, revealing that Jago traveled with the victim from Manchester Piccadilly railway station to a park in Bury on three separate occasions.
During the third visit, the court was told that the girl and Jago had sexual intercourse in a nearby wooded area.
The girl, who has additional learning needs, along with anxiety and depression, was described as 'immature and extremely vulnerable,' a depiction that underscores her susceptibility to grooming and exploitation.
Mr.
Cadwallader remarked on Jago’s grooming success, noting that the victim was so infatuated with him that she expressed a desire to marry him.
The arrest of Jago took place on June 22 of this year at his home in Halewood, after the victim’s mother discovered sexually explicit images on her daughter's mobile phone.
Following his arrest, Jago was transported to Bury Police Station, where officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Child Sexual Exploitation Team interviewed him as part of their investigations.
The victim’s mother delivered a heartfelt victim impact statement in court, expressing her profound concern over her daughter’s emotional well-being.
She explained that her daughter has become distrustful of others and finds it difficult to believe what her family tells her now.
The mother also revealed that the relationship with her daughter has suffered significantly since the grooming and sexual assault, leading to emotional setbacks for the entire family.
Jago’s defense attorney, Mark Shanks, acknowledged that his client deserved credit for his early guilty plea.
He also highlighted Jago’s troubled background, explaining that he had endured a difficult start in life and had struggled to access sufficient mental health support while incarcerated.
Shanks mentioned that Jago has faced threats and hostility during his prison sentence, describing his experience as extremely challenging.
In delivering the verdict, Judge Tina Landale sentenced Jago to four years in prison.
She also imposed a restraining order preventing him from making any contact with the victim or her mother.
Addressing Jago directly, the judge stated, ‘You contacted [the victim] on social media and you knew she was 15 from the very beginning.
Your manipulation and grooming were so effective that she became besotted with you.’ Furthermore, Jago was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Detective Sergeant Ben Harris of Bury’s Complex Safeguarding Team expressed satisfaction with the sentencing, emphasizing that the police are committed to removing predators from the streets and protecting young people in Greater Manchester.
Harris urged anyone affected by similar crimes to contact the police via dialling 101 or through the LiveChat facility on the GMP website, assuring victims that they will be listened to and supported in their recovery journey.
