KYLE GRIFFITHS SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL FOR APPALLING CHILD SEX OFFENCES

Kyle Griffiths, aged 23, was found guilty of possessing, distributing, and downloading indecent images of children, including some of the most serious Category A material involving child rape.

The Liverpool Crown Court heard he engaged in 'extremely disturbing' online conversations, sharing videos and images of child sexual abuse.

He had exchanged and shared horrific content via WhatsApp, which included videos of babies and young children being raped.

Prosecutor Christopher Hopkins detailed that Griffiths's Samsung phone, seized during a police raid on July 6 of last year at his Middleton Drive, Prescot home, contained 47 Category A images—representing the most severe level of child exploitation material—comprising 13 videos.

The phone also held 41 Category B, 28 Category C images, and 1,616 prohibited cartoon images of children.

Analysis revealed that Griffiths had downloaded these images between October 2019 and July 2020 and had also distributed them through WhatsApp.

On April 2, he sent a Category A video, two Category B photos, and a Category C photo to one recipient, and on April 5, he sent two Category A images and one Category C image to another.

The court was also shown a particularly disturbing conversation in which Griffiths described a narrative of raping a baby as if he were the parent, which he did not disclose during the hearing but described as 'extremely disturbing.' Other conversations, though not read out in court, indicated discussions about very young children.

Among the horrific content, there was a video of a baby aged between four to six months being raped, as well as an image of a girl aged three or four being assaulted.

Griffiths admitted to three counts of downloading, one of possessing, and three of distributing indecent images of children, plus possessing prohibited images.

Defence counsel Jeremy Rawson emphasized that Griffiths had no previous convictions and was supported by his family, including his mother and stepfather, who were present in court.

Rawson explained that Griffiths was single, without children, employed full-time—having lost one job due to police investigations but subsequently obtained another—and demonstrated genuine remorse through a pre-sentence report.

The report also revealed that Griffiths, who was 21 at the time of offending, had experienced his own abuse, which he viewed in his activities, and that he was actively seeking help through therapy with The Lucy Faithfull Foundation.

Rawson argued for mitigation, suggesting a sentence less than two years given Griffiths’s cooperation, remorse, and efforts toward rehabilitation.

However, Judge Denis Watson, QC, acknowledged Griffiths's positive background and remorse but highlighted the case’s serious features: the extreme youth of the victims, the explicit nature of the conversations, and the distribution of Category A images to multiple recipients.

Ultimately, the judge determined that custody was necessary because of the gravity of the offences, particularly the distribution of the most severe images.

Griffiths was sentenced to 18 months in prison, ordered to adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and to register as a sex offender for ten years.

As he was led away, he was seen breathing heavily in the dock.
