KRISTOFER MITCHELL FROM HULL CONVICTED OF DOUBLE RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN COURT HEARING
In August 2022, a disturbing case unfolded at Hull Crown Court involving Kristofer Mitchell, a 34-year-old man from Hessle Road, Hull, who was found guilty of multiple heinous sexual offenses. The court heard harrowing details of Mitchell's brutal assaults on women, which included forcing himself upon sleeping victims and even causing one woman to become pregnant as a result of his actions.
Mitchell faced charges of five counts of rape, but he denied all allegations initially.
After a thorough trial, the jury convicted him on four of these counts.
Notably, two of the rape charges involved the same woman, with the court reaching a majority verdict on one of these charges, while acquitting him of the other.
Additionally, Mitchell was convicted on all three counts of rape and two charges of assault by penetration against a second woman, for which he had previously denied involvement.
Prosecutor Simon Reevell described Mitchell's actions as driven solely by his own sexual desires, with no regard for the victims' wishes or feelings.
He emphasized the terrifying nature of the assaults, particularly highlighting an incident where one victim was asleep when Mitchell raped her.
Reevell explained that Mitchell showed complete indifference to her state of unconsciousness, initiating sexual activity without her consent.
The victim recounted her experience to police, saying, "I woke up and he was raping me.
I didn’t know what to do.
I just pretended it wasn’t happening.
I was forced to have sex.
I remember waking up and tried to push him off but I couldn’t.
It was all about him.
He was on top of me.
He had sex with me and I couldn’t move.
I just remember waking up and seeing him.
He was looking at me.
I was trying to say ‘get off me, get off me’.
I didn’t want it to happen.
He called me all the names under the sun.
It was awful, absolutely awful.
It was quite a shock." The court also heard that the same woman later discovered she was pregnant following the assault.
Another victim described her ordeal, saying, "I woke up and he was having sex with me.
I didn’t consent to it.
I was just scared to say anything.
I woke up.
I didn’t say anything.
I just remember feeling a bit sick.
He woke me up, having sex with me.
I was scared of him." Mitchell maintained his innocence, denying that he had engaged in sexual activity without consent or while the women were asleep.
However, the jury found him guilty on all counts, leading to an emotional reaction in the courtroom as he began crying in the dock after the verdicts were read.
Following his conviction, Mitchell was remanded into custody pending sentencing.
Judge Sophie McKone addressed him directly, stating, "You have been convicted by this jury of a number of serious offences.
You know it’s inevitable that you will receive a very lengthy custodial sentence." The case underscores the severity of the crimes committed and the justice served for the victims involved.
