KIRK JOBSON JAILED FOR ABUSE IN NEWCASTLE AND POWYS: HORRIFIC CRIMES FROM THE 1970S REVEALED

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Newcastle and Powys, Kirk Jobson, aged 59, has been sentenced to a total of nine years in prison for a series of disturbing sexual offenses committed during the 1970s. The court heard how Jobson, who at the time was working as a farmhand in South Powys and also served in the Merchant Navy, preyed upon two young boys at a remote farm location, leaving lasting scars on their lives.

One of the victims, who was just eight or nine years old when the abuse began, recounted how Jobson’s actions haunted him well into adulthood. The other victim, aged between nine and 11 at the time of the assaults, also suffered serious sexual abuse at the hands of Jobson. The court was told that Jobson held the boys down during the attacks, ignoring their screams and pleas for him to stop, and warned the younger boy not to tell anyone, a threat he kept for many years.

During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, Judge William Gaskell described Jobson’s conduct as taking advantage of his greater age and position of power. The judge detailed how Jobson had pushed the older boy against a wall, restraining him and subjecting him to sexual assault. The victim testified that he was so terrified that he did not scream, and Jobson dismissed the incident as “a bit of fun” that “wouldn’t last long.” When the boy was upset and crying, Jobson would give him small amounts of money, attempting to buy his silence.

The court heard that the younger victim also felt “dirty” after the assaults and had to wash himself to rid the shame. He described how the attacks had “blighted” his life and continued to haunt him long after the incidents. Despite these traumatic experiences, the victims did not report the abuse at the time, fearing disbelief and further harm.

Judge Gaskell acknowledged that since these offenses, Jobson had led what appeared to be a normal life, working in a care home for 18 years and maintaining a long-term relationship. He currently resides in Newcastle upon Tyne. However, the court was told that Jobson’s life was significantly affected by his criminal actions, as he has lost his job, his home, and his relationship since his conviction.

In sentencing, Judge Gaskell imposed a five-year term for the abuse of the older boy, to run consecutively with a four-year sentence for the attacks on the younger victim. The combined sentence totals nine years, with the court ruling that Jobson will serve half of this time in custody. The case has brought to light the long-lasting impact of these crimes, which have left indelible marks on the victims’ lives and serve as a stark reminder of the importance of justice and safeguarding vulnerable children.
