KIERAN HAMILTON SENTENCED IN LUTON FOR GROOMING AND RAPE OF TEENAGER
In June 2023, a disturbing case involving a young man from Luton culminated in a court sentencing that highlighted the serious nature of grooming and sexual assault crimes against minors.Kieran Hamilton, aged 21, was convicted of multiple charges related to his predatory behavior towards a teenage girl, which had profound and lasting effects on her mental health and well-being.
The case dates back to 2018 and 2019, when Hamilton, then 17 years old, initiated contact with the 14-year-old victim through Snapchat.
He added her as a friend on the social media platform and soon convinced her to send explicit photographs of herself.
Exploiting her trust, Hamilton used these images to blackmail her, coercing her into meeting him in person on two separate occasions in Luton over a span of two months.
During these meetings, Hamilton subjected the young girl to sexual activities in public settings, including a distressing incident where he raped her.
The victim later recounted to police that her fear of Hamilton sharing her private images with others compelled her to comply with his demands.
Her anxiety and sense of helplessness grew with each encounter, leading her to feel trapped and unable to escape the situation.
Following the second assault, the victim confided in her mother immediately, and together they reported Hamilton to Bedfordshire Police.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, collecting forensic evidence that linked Hamilton directly to the crimes.
The investigation revealed a pattern of manipulation, coercion, and exploitation, which was detailed during the court proceedings.
In a heartfelt impact statement read aloud in court, the victim described the severe emotional toll the incidents had taken on her.
She shared her ongoing struggles with fear, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.
She explained how her social life and academic performance suffered, losing friends and disassociating from her schoolwork.
The trauma also caused her to blame herself, questioning whether she could have prevented the assaults.
Judge Alan Blake addressed Hamilton directly during the sentencing hearing, condemning his conduct as callous and manipulative.
The judge emphasized that Hamilton’s actions were controlling and coercive, designed to dominate and exploit a vulnerable young girl.
Although Hamilton did not use physical force, the judge clarified that this did not make the acts consensual.
The manipulation and exploitation left the victim feeling trapped and profoundly harmed.
The judge also noted that Hamilton’s attitude and behavior posed a continued risk to other young women.
At the time of the offenses, Hamilton resided on Chesford Road in Luton.
He initially pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
However, he denied two counts of rape, leading to a trial where he was ultimately found guilty of one count of rape related to a February incident with the victim.
He was acquitted of the January incident.
On Wednesday, at Luton Crown Court, Hamilton received a custodial sentence of five years for the rape conviction.
Additionally, he was sentenced to six months for engaging in sexual activity with a child and one year for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, with all sentences to run concurrently.
The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order and mandated his registration on the sex offenders register.
The judge took into account Hamilton’s age at the time of the offenses, recognizing the impact of his actions on the victim and the community.
