KIERAN FOWLER WRIGHT SHOCKS EDINBURGH WITH SEX OFFENSES IN STUDENT HALLS
Kieran Fowler Wright, aged 23, has been found guilty of committing a serious sexual assault and rape within the premises of student accommodation in Edinburgh. The conviction was delivered after a detailed trial at the High Court in Livingston, where the court heard harrowing testimonies from the victims involved in these disturbing incidents.
According to the evidence presented, Fowler Wright engaged in sexual acts with two young women while they were asleep, without their consent.
The court was told that he not only assaulted them while they were unconscious but also continued to have non-consensual sexual contact with one of the victims on multiple occasions.
During the proceedings, Fowler Wright attempted to defend himself by claiming that both women had consented to the sexual acts, asserting that they had agreed to his advances within their shared student residences in Edinburgh.
However, the jury swiftly dismissed his claims, taking only two hours to reach a verdict.
They found his defenses unconvincing and instead accepted the credible and consistent testimonies of the victims.
Fowler Wright, who hails from Eltham in South East London, showed no visible emotion as the court announced the verdicts.
He was convicted of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault.
The first victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, testified that Fowler Wright had put his arm around her and touched her private parts while she was asleep in her student flat on September 22, 2019.
She recounted that upon awakening, he proceeded to sexually penetrate her with his fingers and then forced her to touch his penis, an act she described as non-consensual.
The second woman provided a nearly identical account of her experience with Fowler Wright.
She explained that she considered him a friend and had invited him to stay in her room after a night out clubbing, as he was crying and threatened to self-harm if left alone.
Her testimony detailed that Fowler Wright assaulted her while she was asleep in the same campus block on March 10, 2020.
In addition to these assaults, the court heard about a series of brutal attacks on a third woman, who cannot be named publicly.
She described how Fowler Wright repeatedly raped her between October 1, 2020, and November 16, 2020, at a different student flat on Lothian Road, Edinburgh.
She testified that despite not verbally protesting, her facial expressions and lack of participation indicated her non-consent.
She recounted that Fowler Wright pinned her down on a bed, inflicted a cut on her neck with a razor blade, held her against a wall, and choked her using his hands and a belt.
The jury found him guilty of raping this woman to her injury, causing permanent disfigurement, and putting her life at risk.
Following the verdicts, Fowler Wright, who had previously discontinued his studies in Edinburgh but later completed an archaeology degree at York University, was remanded into custody.
The court ordered that background reports be prepared before sentencing.
Judge Lord Mulholland informed Fowler Wright that he would be sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh next month, in November.
Additionally, the judge ordered that Fowler Wright’s name be added immediately to the sex offenders’ register, and he was told that he would be notified of the duration of his notification requirements once the sentence is passed.
