KHALID ANWAR FROM PERTHSHIRE SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR RAPE AND HARASSMENT IN GLASGOW AND CLACKMANNANSHIRE

A man identified as Khalid Anwar, aged 40 and originally from Perthshire, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of serious sexual assault and related offences. The incident took place in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, in 2011, where Anwar engaged in a sexual assault against a woman he had met through a dating website.

According to court records, the 44-year-old woman recounted to the jury that she was attacked after having consensual sex with Anwar on five separate occasions that day. Despite her initial consent, the situation escalated into a non-consensual assault, leading to Anwar's conviction for rape. Anwar, who is from Edinburgh, denied the charges throughout the proceedings but was found guilty at an earlier hearing in September. As part of his conviction, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

The trial, held at the High Court in Glasgow last month, included testimony from the victim, who was unable to be named publicly due to legal restrictions. She detailed the aftermath of the assault, including disturbing communications exchanged via text messages. One message from her expressed frustration, stating, "I'm annoyed you carried on when I asked you not to..." In response, Anwar allegedly replied that the woman had "enjoyed it, but in a painful way," indicating a lack of remorse and a continued pattern of harassment.

The court also examined evidence of threatening messages sent by Anwar to his victim. These included threats to publicly display naked photographs of her at her workplace and on her street, further demonstrating his intent to intimidate and control her. The woman described feeling overwhelmed and frightened, recounting instances where Anwar would show up uninvited at her residence, leaving her unsure of how to remove him from her property.

One particularly distressing account involved Anwar slapping her when he appeared at her house one morning after she had returned from a night shift. The victim expressed her fear, stating that his unannounced visits and aggressive behavior left her in a constant state of alarm. The court heard that, in addition to the sexual assault, Anwar was convicted of breaching the peace by leaving his victim in a "state of fear and alarm."

During the sentencing hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lady Scott emphasized that Anwar maintained his innocence despite the overwhelming evidence against him. She ordered his immediate detention and sentenced him to four years in prison, underscoring the severity of his actions and the impact on the victim's well-being.
