KHALID ALSROOJI JAILLED IN EDINBURGH FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES
A former security guard for the Scottish government has been sentenced to eight years in prison after raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while they were asleep.Khalid Alsrooji, aged 35, carried out these assaults at flats in Edinburgh following nights out where he met his victims.
Both women awoke to find themselves partially undressed, with Alsrooji attempting to engage in sexual acts.
One victim was later found to have traces of drugs in her blood, although she insisted she had not taken any.
She testified at the High Court in Edinburgh, recalling, "My next memory is waking up on a couch facing the wall in an unknown flat." She described telling her attacker, "No, stop," and explained, "I didn't have enough energy to move or do anything about it.
I couldn't move or open my eyes." The assault was reported to police after the woman attended hospital.
Khalid Alsrooji, of Robertson Gait in Edinburgh, had denied the charges but was convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another with the intent to rape.
Judge Lord Weir stated that Alsrooji, who had previously worked as a Scottish government security guard and a nightclub doorman, exploited his victims during their vulnerability.
Addressing Alsrooji directly, the judge said, "You were found guilty after trial of two serious charges involving different complainants on different occasions, in circumstances which disclosed common features." The judge noted that neither woman was previously known to Alsrooji, who is a father of one.
Defence solicitor advocate Krista Johnston, representing the accused, stated that Alsrooji, born in Sudan, maintained his innocence but was assessed as posing a medium risk of further offending.
As a result, he was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
