A New Year’s Eve celebration which turned sour ended in violence the following morning.Magistrates' Court heard Kevin Wogden and his partner had gone home and slept on the row, but the following morning he punched her after she had pushed him.Wogden, 41, of West View, Haslingden, admitted to assault.He was made subject to a 12-month community order with a 20-hour rehabilitation activity requirement and 100 hours unpaid work. He was also made subject to a restraining order for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.Scott Parker, prosecuting, said the couple had been out on New Year’s Eve and had an argument. They went home and went to sleep but there was still bad feeling between them when they woke the following morning.“He pleads guilty on the basis that she pushed him and in response, he punched her to the head,” said Mr Parker.“She called the police and when they arrived she was visibly distressed and crying. She had a lump on her temple and was scanned at the hospital but there was no bony injury.”Phillipa Curtis, in mitigation, said her client expressed his remorse. “It was the result of a New Year’s Eve celebration and he has limited alcohol intake since then,” he added.
