KEVIN REDGRAVE FROM DULOE SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN TRURO

In November 2010, Kevin Redgrave, a resident of Duloe, was subjected to a severe legal penalty after authorities uncovered an extensive collection of indecent images and videos on his computer, which were described as some of the most disturbing and depraved seen by police forensic experts in a five-year period. The case was brought before Truro Crown Court, where Deputy Circuit Judge Lester Boothman sentenced the 62-year-old to ten months in prison.

During the proceedings, prosecutor Iain White detailed the nature of the material found on Redgrave’s device, emphasizing the disturbing content that included images and movies involving children, extreme acts towards women, and sexual involvement with animals. The forensic officer involved in the investigation stated, “I have never encountered more depraved, abusive and cruel pictures and movie files either involving indecency with children or extreme material towards women or sexual involvement with animals.”

Redgrave, who was described as a man of previously good character, was also ordered to be subject to an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order. This order restricts his ability to work with children and mandates that he sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for the next ten years. The charges against him stemmed from offenses committed between 2004 and 2009, to which he pleaded guilty.

According to Mr. White, the investigation was triggered when Redgrave took his computer to an engineer in Looe last year. The engineer discovered files that prompted him to notify the police. Upon arrest, Redgrave admitted to viewing the material, stating, “I just look at pornography, there are 75 megabites of videos, some are legal and some are illegal. I don’t make it I just look at it.”

The police found a total of 266 images categorized across five levels of severity, with 49 images at the lowest level and six at the most serious level. Additionally, there were 90 files of extreme pornography. Redgrave explained that he had downloaded these files over several years from the internet for his own gratification, denying any distribution to others.

He expressed remorse, saying, “I know what I did was wrong, I have no intention of being with children or anything like that, this has solely been for my own titillation, gratification and inquisitiveness.” He also claimed ignorance of the illegality of possessing extreme pornography.

During the defense, Christopher Andrews highlighted that Redgrave had developed an obsession with collecting increasingly revolting images, seeking out material that most people would find horrifying. He described Redgrave as a “distorted connoisseur” of such content.

Redgrave’s background was also discussed, revealing that he had no prior criminal record and had spent much of his working life in the hotel industry, including time in the United States. However, his career was derailed by bankruptcy and alcohol issues. Currently, he relies on state benefits, and both he and his wife are suffering from health problems.

Andrews emphasized Redgrave’s honesty with police and his understanding of the community’s revulsion. He noted that Redgrave’s reputation had been severely damaged, with friends disowning him, and he faced eviction from his home of ten years. His social life had been affected, and he was no longer invited to play golf with friends. The defendant was also undergoing treatment for depression and anxiety, but maintained strong support from his wife and family.

In sentencing, Judge Boothman acknowledged the seriousness of the offenses, particularly noting that most images involved children under 13, with some videos lasting up to 25 minutes. The judge considered mitigating factors such as Redgrave’s guilty pleas, his health issues, age, lack of prior convictions, and character references. Ultimately, the court imposed a ten-month prison sentence and the indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, reflecting the gravity of the crimes committed.
