KEVIN HUNT SENT TO JAIL IN MAIDSTONE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE COMMITTED OVER 30 YEARS AGO

In a case that has spanned decades, Kevin Hunt, a resident of Maidstone, has been convicted and sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a young girl more than 30 years ago. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details of Hunt’s actions, which took place when the victim was a child and he was in his twenties.

Kevin Hunt, aged 56 and residing on South Park Road in Maidstone, faced six charges of indecent assault. Despite his denial of the allegations, a jury found him guilty after hearing compelling evidence. The judge at Maidstone Crown Court described Hunt’s conduct as “a disgraceful course of conduct,” emphasizing the severity and reprehensibility of his actions. Hunt was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison.

The prosecution, led by Simon Taylor, outlined the nature of Hunt’s abuse. It was revealed that Hunt had touched the girl inappropriately, including placing his hand down her trousers and engaging in a sexual act with her. The court heard that Hunt also kissed the girl, using his tongue, and would perform a sexual act on himself using her legs. These acts occurred when Hunt was in his twenties, and the victim was notably vulnerable at the time.

During the trial, the victim’s mother confronted Hunt directly, telling him, “I know what you did.” Hunt responded dismissively, claiming, “It wasn’t very much.” When Hunt was arrested in March of the previous year, he denied all allegations and insisted he had never been challenged about such conduct before.

It was also disclosed during the proceedings that Hunt had a prior conviction for a sexual offence. In 1989, he served nine months in prison for a similar offence involving a girl, indicating a troubling pattern of behavior.

Hunt’s defense attorney, Tom Dunn, argued that his client had been suffering from an industrial accident that caused him pain, and claimed that the ongoing allegations had significantly impacted Hunt’s life. Dunn stated, “His life has been on hold since this complaint was made. It has hung over his head for 16 months, but he now has closure. This has been a very unhappy chapter in his life.”

Judge Martin Joy, presiding over the case, highlighted the strength of the evidence against Hunt. He condemned Hunt’s actions as “disgraceful,” noting the victim’s extreme vulnerability and the traumatic impact of the abuse. The judge observed that the victim was visibly distressed during her testimony, hyperventilating and tearful, which was understandable given the circumstances.

As part of his sentence, Hunt’s name will be entered onto the sex offenders’ register, and he will be subject to a sexual offences prevention order for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further harm.
