CLEETHORPES MAN GETS 11 YEARS FOR VICIOUS KIDNAP ATTEMPT ON TEEN GIRL
A man who attempted to kidnap a teenage girl by gagging her with industrial tape has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Kevin Haigh, aged 53, residing on Grimsby Road in Cleethorpes, approached the girl on Kings Road on June 3 and started to engage her in conversation.
During the incident, Haigh took her phone to prevent her from calling for help and then proceeded to put tape over her mouth.
The girl managed to escape unharmed but was left extremely shaken by the ordeal.
Kevin Haigh, 53, admitted to charges of false imprisonment, attempted kidnap to commit a sexual offence, and assault in court.
The attack was described by police as 'vicious,' with Insp Rhod Troake stating, "Haigh carried out a vicious attack on an unsuspecting teenage girl, causing her to fear for her life purely for his own sexual gratification." Haigh was removed from society for his actions and will serve a significant prison sentence.
The court's ruling aims to bring some measure of justice for the victim, who was left 'incredibly shaken' but thankfully safe after escaping.
Following the case, authorities emphasized that Haigh is now off the streets, preventing further offenses of this nature.
