July 2022 Justice finally catches up with paedophile When the day the law finally caught up with paedophile Kevin Greenwood, he said he felt a perverse sense of relief. Kevin had filmed a primary school girl with a hidden camera, then took photos of her fully-clothed, while she slept. He also downloaded hundreds of horrific videos and images of children and babies being sexually abused and he stored the content on his phone. Forensic investigators found 567 illegal images of pre-teenage girls and younger children on his two phones. Then in Dee Dee’s Cafe, on Sotherby Road in Middlesbrough, the Brotton lorry driver filmed teenage girls who had their backs to him. Kevin wanted to go to prison for all the crimes he had committed. In his opinion it was the only acceptable punishment. Following the incident at the Dee Dee’s Cafe where he took pictures of the girls’ bottoms, police were called by concerned customers. By the time officers arrived, Kevin had tried to remove the evidence from his phone but later openly confessed to other sick crimes while being interviewed at the station Kevin told them about filming a young girl while she was getting dressed. He admitted using Russian websites while sleeping in his lorry cab at the end of a shift, watching very young girls being sexually abused. He was charged and bailed, with a court date set at a later date. However, after telling a neighbour about the court case, Kevin started to fear for his life. People passing him in the street shouted abuse at him and threatened violence. Kevin eventually got too scared to return home and decided to put his house up for sale. Desperate to get rid off it, he sold it for £30,000, £20,000 under its value. He threw out all his belongings and moved into a Travel Lodge with just a few clothes. Not wanting to be spared jail, he did not seek out a solicitor for his court case. During his second court hearing – the first was adjourned – he told the judge he wanted to be locked up but he was told he needed to find a barrister to represent him because the court needed to hear if he had any mitigation for his crimes. The paedophile was found wandering outside Teesside Crown Court : “I just want to go to prison. I know I’ve messed up, I know what I’ve done is disgusting, that’s why everyone hates me. I told me boss I quit, that I’d done something wrong and I couldn’t work for him anymore. “My family want nothing to do with me and I deserve it. When I took my furniture to the tip, the man asked what I was doing. I told him I was throwing all my things away, and people swarmed around to take my furniture and electricals.” Starting to run out of money, Kevin moved from the Travel Lodge into a camper van and fled to Pickering. He also spent some times in the Moors and volunteered to be electronically tagged so police knew where he was at all times. Kevin’s next court date was on June 22, this time with a barrister. He repeated his desire to be jailed, saying he felt he deserved to be. Prosecutor Jolyon Perks said that Kevin was guilty of “upskirting” when he took the photographs of the girls in the café. But the pervert insisted that he took the photos from his table and has never “upskirted”. During the hearing, one of the girls Kevin had filmed in the café said the events had left her traumatised and upset. Both the victims and family hoped he would be imprisoned for what he had done. Despite his own wish to go to jail, he was handed a suspended sentence. This means he will only be locked up should he commit more crimes in the future. He was also ordered to complete a Horizon course and given a sexual harm prevention order. His online activity is also restricted and he is not allowed to be near children unsupervised.
