ABERDEEN MAN SENTENCED FOR THREATENING NEIGHBORS OVER VIBRATION RUMORS
An Aberdeen man who caused a two-week period of aggressive conduct and homophobic insults towards his neighbors has been sentenced to community service. Kevin Forbes, aged 50, was involved in a series of threatening acts at his residence on Summerfield Terrace between October 10 and 24 last year. Court proceedings revealed that Forbes, who was under the influence of crack cocaine and heroin at the time, believed there were vibrations coming from his neighbor’s flat, which he thought were caused intentionally. The court heard he admitted to threatening and abusive behavior, such as shouting, swearing, and making threats of violence against two male neighbors. He also shone a torch through their windows and directed homophobic remarks at one of them. It was established through CCTV footage that Forbes was captured yelling insults like “you are f***ing s***bags and scumbags” and threatening to “kick this door in if that vibration s*** starts again,” as well as trying to provoke his neighbors into a physical altercation. On one occasion, he said, “I hope you’re not doing those stupid f***ing vibration games,” and on another, “I will smash your f***ing face if the vibrations come up through my f***ing floor – I will hear you.” Additionally, he was recorded shining a torch while calling them “c***” and “stupid,” and derogatorily calling them “a couple of f******.” His defense highlighted that his drug use was escalating during this period and that he wrongly attributed noises to drilling, not vibrations caused by his neighbors. The court acknowledged that his behavior was unacceptable, even if only two of the neighbors were at home during his two-week campaign. Sheriff Margaret Hodge ordered him to complete 90 hours of unpaid work within seven months as a penalty, concluding that in spite of his addiction issues, his actions were inappropriate and harmful.
