KEVIN DAVEY SENTENCED IN BLACKPOOL FOR CHILD INDECENCY OFFENCES
In March 2014, a man from Blackpool was given a suspended sentence after admitting to charges related to indecent images of children and engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old. Kevin Davey, aged 43 and residing on Clevedon Road, North Shore, confessed to a probation officer that he had sex with the minor. He also acknowledged to police that he had discussed sex with boys in online chat rooms and that he was attracted to children.Preston Crown Court was informed that Davey led a notably isolated life, primarily communicating with others through the internet. Prosecutor David Clarke stated that police had visited Davey's former address on Station Road, South Shore, in February 2013 after being alerted by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Unit regarding downloaded images of concern.
A examination revealed that between December 2012 and February 2013, Davey accessed 102 indecent images classified as level one, which often depicted children as young as 10 in underwear. Additionally, he accessed 19 images at level two, four at level three, and four at level four, the latter showing sexual acts between children and adults.
Mr. Clarke noted, “In a pre-sentence report, troubling admissions are recorded, including the defendant speaking of having had sex with a 15-year-old and apparently sending images related to child exploitation.”
Defence lawyer John Woodward described his client’s background, stating, “He has been very frank and has admitted committing a further offence, potentially more serious than those he was charged with.”
Judge Anthony Russell, upon sentencing, explained that the sentence was tailored to serve the public interest, resulting in a six-month prison term suspended for two years, along with two years of supervised probation and mandatory participation in a sex offender treatment programme. Davey will also be required to register as a sex offender for seven years and is prohibited from making contact with children under 16.
