KEVIN CHING PLYMOUTH SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES IN EXETER
In August 2004, Kevin Andrew Floyd Ching, a man from Plymouth, was sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving two young girls. The case was heard at Exeter Crown Court, where Ching faced charges that included one count of raping a girl under 16, one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, and two counts of indecent assault on a female child under 13.
The court was informed that the offences took place during the summer of 2003, when Ching, then in his mid-20s, had established a relationship with the mother of one of the victims.
Although there was no romantic connection between Ching and the mother, he had developed a troubling pattern of grooming the two girls, who were aged 14 and 12 at the time.
Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Ching frequently visited the flats of both victims' families, building a relationship of trust and familiarity.
Mobile phone records recovered by police showed that between August and October 2003, there were over 1,400 text messages and phone calls exchanged between Ching and the two girls, indicating a close and inappropriate relationship.
The situation escalated when, on October 23rd, the 14-year-old victim formally reported to her mother that Ching had raped her.
During the trial, Ching admitted to having sexual intercourse with her the day before her complaint, which contributed to his guilty plea.
Following the first victim’s disclosure, the 12-year-old girl also came forward, admitting that Ching had sexually touched her on two separate occasions and had persuaded her to engage in sexual intercourse.
The prosecution presented medical evidence indicating that both girls had injuries consistent with their accounts.
The hymen of both victims showed tears and injuries typical of sexual assault, with the 14-year-old's vaginal swab testing positive for semen matching Ching’s DNA.
Throughout the proceedings, Ching repeatedly denied the allegations, lying to investigators and only admitting to some of the offences after scientific and medical evidence was presented in court.
During the trial, he showed no remorse for his actions.
Despite his partial admissions, the jury found him unanimously guilty of three of the four charges he faced.
Judge Griggs sentenced Kevin Ching to a total of eight years’ imprisonment.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, underscoring the severity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
The case highlights the disturbing pattern of grooming and abuse carried out by Ching in Plymouth, with devastating consequences for the young victims involved.
