KEVIN BOND OF BROMLEY SENTENCED FOR SHOCKING SEX ATTACKS ON SCHOOLGIRLS IN SOUTH LONDON

In July 2018, a man known as Kevin Bond, who resided in Bromley, was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of a series of disturbing and invasive sexual assaults targeting young girls in south London. Bond, a former nightclub owner and operations manager at South Bank University, carried out these heinous acts across various boroughs, including Southwark, Bexley, Lewisham, and Bromley, instilling fear among the local communities.

Bond’s pattern of offending involved targeting vulnerable young girls, some as young as eight years old, during their daily commutes to and from school. His method was predatory; he would approach lone women or pairs of young girls, often following them discreetly before launching his attack. One particularly alarming incident involved him following an 11-year-old girl into an elevator, where he assaulted her. His actions were characterized by the judge as a “shocking, violating, frightening, and distressing” campaign of sexual violence.

His criminal activities first came to light on October 6, 2016. However, it was not until November of the following year that police managed to apprehend him, following a public appeal that included the release of CCTV images. Bond’s DNA was recovered from the crotch area of one victim’s jeans, and multiple victims identified him during police identity parades, confirming his involvement in these crimes. He subsequently admitted to 11 counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.

During the sentencing hearing at Woolwich Crown Court, prosecutor Ben Lloyd detailed Bond’s modus operandi. He explained that Bond would often follow women and girls in public spaces, particularly during peak commuting hours. Once he had identified a victim, he would surprise her, grabbing her inappropriately before fleeing the scene. The impact on the victims was profound; many expressed feelings of fear and anxiety, with some stating they now avoid town centers altogether. One young girl, in her personal statement, revealed she actively avoids being alone in public due to her fear of encountering similar offenders.

Judge Nicholas Heathcote Williams QC described Bond’s actions as “deeply shocking, violating, frightening, distressing, and disturbing” and emphasized the significant planning involved in his crimes. The judge noted that Bond carefully selected locations, identified potential victims, and waited for the right moment to strike. As part of his sentence, Bond was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was prohibited from living with or having unsupervised contact with girls under 18 unless explicitly approved by social services and the child’s parent or guardian.
