KEVIN BEAK SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ATTACK IN NEWCASTLE
In July 2017, Kevin Beak was believed to be living freely in the Heaton estate, Newcastle.Previously, in November 2010, he was jailed for a brutal teenage sex attack.
The court heard that Beak, then 29, dragged his victim through bushes to a secluded area and subjected her to a horrific sexual assault.
The victim, a teenager out for an early-morning jog at the City Stadium in Shieldfield, Newcastle, screamed and fought as Beak pulled her away from the running track.
Realising she was completely overpowered and fearing for her life, the teenager stopped resisting.
It was at this moment that Beak carried out a degrading, painful, and prolonged attack, inflicting serious injuries.
Prosecutor Penny Moreland explained to Newcastle Crown Court that Beak, of Litchfield Avenue, Walker, had been drinking heavily and taking cocaine the night before the assault, which took place early on Sunday, July 4.
“She was out running after returning from work and unable to sleep,” said Miss Moreland.
“As she was running around the track, she was grabbed by the defendant.
“She screamed, and he told her to calm down.
He then forced her through undergrowth and a gap in a fence to an area of disused land.
“The victim fought as hard as she could and even bit him on the chest.
She tried to run away and use her phone, but he was bigger and stronger, and she decided that complying was her only chance to survive.” During the attack, Beak told her she was “beautiful” and asked if she was enjoying it or if it hurt.
After he finished, he expressed disbelief, saying, “I can’t believe I’m a rapist.” Beak fled the scene by taxi to his mother’s house but was caught on CCTV fleeing the area.
A few days later, he surrendered to police.
During questioning, officers noticed a clear bite mark on his chest, and DNA evidence from saliva found on the victim matched his.
In September, Beak pleaded guilty to three counts of rape.
Mitigation lawyer Richard Bloomfield presented a handwritten letter from Beak, in which he described losing his job, partner, and baby because of the assault.
Judge Brian Forster sentenced Beak to an indefinite term for public protection, with a minimum of four and a half years to be served.
Upon release, he will remain on license and be registered as a sex offender for life.
The judge remarked, “Your victim suffered a terrifying ordeal which has clearly had a devastating effect on her.”
