EVIL PAEDOPHILE TOLD LITTLE GIRL HER PARENTS 'WOULDN'T LOVE HER' IF SHE SPOKE OUT
A despicable paedophile threatened a young girl, telling her that her parents "wouldn't love her" if she revealed his sexual misconduct towards her.Kevan O'Connor was convicted at Liverpool Crown Court of multiple sexual crimes committed against four victims spanning the 1950s through the 1970s.
During the hearing, one victim of a serious sexual assault described how she attempted to take her own life after enduring "severe psychological damage" caused by O'Connor’s abuse.
The now 75-year-old defendant faced the court in the dock as his victims observed his sentencing to prison.
Prosecutor Gareth Roberts explained that one complainant, who suffered indecent assault, said the abuse "affected my entire life." She recalled leaving her swimming costume on while bathing, pretending she was at the swimming pool to hide the abuse, and admitted, "I was hurt and I couldn't tell my mum and dad." Another victim stated that the abuse "changed my mental state" and "impacted every aspect of her life." Mr.
Roberts noted, "She didn't trust anyone and never felt safe." The court also heard that O'Connor would force one individual to perform sexual acts on him before committing a serious sexual offence.
Mr.
Roberts described the victim's account: "He describes the pain, saying he was pushed into the mattress while the defendant forced himself upon him." Judge David Watson, QC, sentenced O'Connor and described how the offender repeatedly told one girl that if she spoke out, "her parents wouldn't love her." The judge stated, "You groomed her.
You gave her money in an attempt to keep her silent, which she remembers very clearly." The judge further remarked, "There is no doubt he has suffered severe psychological harm; he attempted suicide.
He was vulnerable." O'Connor, of Rawlinson Road, Old Swan, has no prior convictions.
Sarah Holt, defending, acknowledged that "little mitigation can be offered," emphasizing that O'Connor insists he is innocent but accepts the jury’s verdict." The judge sentenced him to 17 years in prison, with an additional one-year extension on his license.
O'Connor was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and placed under an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Claire McDonald commented, "The bravery of the victims in coming forward and supporting this prosecution has ensured that this man, who ruined their lives, will face justice and spend many years behind bars.
His heinous actions have had a lasting emotional impact on all of them." He will also be subject to lifelong supervision for sex offences.
