KENNY JONES SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS IN PRISON IN GWYNEDD AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT ON ANGLESEY
A man identified as Kenny Jones, aged 38, faced a grim turn of events just days before his scheduled sentencing for a serious sexual assault. The incident involved an 18-year-old woman, and his actions led to a court decision to imprison him for two years in Caernarfon Crown Court.
Prior to his court appearance, Jones had been hospitalized for the entire week, indicating a period of personal distress and possible mental health struggles.
The court heard details of the assault that took place on November 22, 2020, on the island of Anglesey.
According to the testimony, Jones encountered the young woman at a property—details that were carefully presented during the trial.
He reportedly grabbed her arms with enough force to cause bruising, an act that displayed not only aggression but a clear violation of her personal boundaries.
During this encounter, Jones demanded she kiss him, an act she refused, but he persisted by attempting to kiss her and making lewd remarks, further asserting his aggressive intentions.
Adding to the severity of this case, the court uncovered that Jones had, at another point, engaged in criminal behavior involving the theft of a vehicle.
He departed from the scene in a car without the owner’s consent, despite lacking a valid driving license or insurance coverage.
This reckless conduct highlighted a pattern of criminal behavior driven by selfish motivations, as outlined during the trial, with the sexual assault described as an act performed for his own gratification.
The emotional toll on the victim was also addressed.
In a statement read aloud in court, she expressed how her life had been profoundly affected by the assault.
Once described as bubbly and outgoing, she now battles feelings of embarrassment and guilt, worrying about how others might judge her for not resisting more forcefully.
She revealed that her sense of safety and trust had been shattered; she now avoids the area where the incident occurred out of fear of encountering Jones.
Her experiences have led her to distrust men altogether, and she is currently undergoing counseling to cope with the trauma.
The defense attorney, Dafydd Roberts, provided some context regarding Jones’s personal history, citing the loss of his young son in 2010 and a serious assault he suffered in 2017, both of which have contributed to his current mental health challenges.
Roberts noted that Jones had attempted to take his own life earlier in the week, requiring hospitalization, and described him as being in a deeply depressive state.
Despite this, the defense requested that the court consider suspending the prison sentence, arguing that Jones could benefit from rehabilitation programs, including drug and alcohol treatment, especially if given access to medication in a prison setting.
However, the presiding judge, Mr.
Recorder Wyn Lloyd Jones, was unequivocal in his sentencing.
He emphasized that Jones’s actions—particularly the sexual assault—were driven by selfish and sexual motives, with significant emotional and psychological repercussions for the victim.
The judge underscored that a custodial sentence was necessary to serve justice, stating, “It's clear that this offence has had a significant effect on her mentally and emotionally.
I would not be doing my job properly today if I suspend the sentence.
An immediate prison sentence is appropriate for what you did and the effect it had on this victim.” Furthermore, Jones was imposed a ten-year restraining order, prohibiting him from contacting the victim—whose identity remains protected—ensuring her safety and peace of mind going forward.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the lasting impact such violations inflict on victims and the importance of judicial measures to uphold justice and safeguard survivors from further harm.
