KENNETH MALIA FROM NEWCASTLE BUSTED FOR VIOLATING SEXUAL HARM PREVENTION ORDER IN NETHERTON
In a recent development in the ongoing efforts to combat sexual offenses, Kenneth Malia, a man residing in Newcastle, was caught violating a court-imposed restriction in Netherton. The court had previously issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) against Malia, explicitly prohibiting him from acquiring children's underwear due to concerns over his behavior and potential risk to the community.
Despite the clear directives, Malia was found in possession of additional items that fell under the restrictions of his order.
This breach was brought to light during a routine check or investigation, which revealed that he had not only violated the terms but had also continued to possess items that he was legally barred from obtaining.
Kevin Plant, aged 51, was the individual who identified or reported the breach, and he confirmed that Malia admitted to the violation when questioned.
The court, taking a firm stance on such breaches, decided to extend Malia’s Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an additional three years.
This extension underscores the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring that individuals like Malia remain under supervision and treatment programs designed to prevent any future offending.
The court emphasized that the extension was not merely punitive but also a necessary step to safeguard the community, especially vulnerable groups such as children.
The importance of ongoing treatment and supervision was highlighted as critical components in reducing the risk of reoffending and ensuring that Malia remains under strict monitoring during the extended period of his order.
