KENNETH LIGHT CHELMSLEY WOOD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED AGAIN FOR MORE VICTIMS
In September 2020, Kenneth Light, a man previously convicted of heinous sexual offenses, faced additional legal consequences following new allegations brought forward by victims who had remained silent until recent publicity surrounding his case.Light, who had already been sentenced to over eight years in prison in September 2019 for a series of disturbing crimes, was found guilty of further offenses after three more women came forward to share their traumatic experiences. These revelations came after the initial conviction, which involved the abuse of two young girls aged between five and ten years old, committed over a span of years from 1998 to 2006.
The initial case had uncovered that Light had indecently assaulted these young victims during their childhood. The severity of his crimes was compounded when one of the victims, now an adult in her 20s, reported that Light had assaulted her again, this time years after the initial abuse. This re-attack rekindled painful memories from her childhood, prompting her to come forward and report the matter to the police.
Following his conviction and sentencing in Birmingham Crown Court, detectives from the Public Protection Unit expressed concern that there might be additional victims who had not yet come forward. Their fears proved justified when three women stepped forward, alleging that Light had committed further offenses against them. Two of these women claimed that Light had indecently assaulted them during their childhood, while the third accused him of raping her when she was in her 20s.
At the time of his arrest and trial, Light, who was 75 years old and previously resided on Chelmsley Road in Chelmsley Wood, admitted to the assaults but denied the charge of rape. However, on the first day of his trial, he changed his plea to guilty regarding the rape allegation. On Tuesday, September 15, 2020, Light was sentenced to an additional eight years and eight months in prison, with the sentence to run concurrently from September 15, 2020. Furthermore, he will remain on the Sex Offender Register for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
His previous conviction in September 2019 had already marked him as a dangerous offender. That conviction stemmed from his abuse of two young girls between 1998 and 2006, with the crimes coming to light after one victim reported being assaulted again in 2016, when she was in her 20s. This report prompted a police investigation, which confirmed that Light had committed multiple offenses over several years. The court sentenced him to a total of eight years and eight months at Birmingham Crown Court, and he was placed on the Sex Offender Register, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk he posed to the community.
