KENNETH DICK SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN GATESHEAD FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a case that has shocked the Gateshead community, Kenneth Dick, a 66-year-old resident of Ryde Terrace, Dunston, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple heinous sexual offences involving a minor. The conviction stems from charges brought against him in March 2023, which included four serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving a child.According to court records, the charges against Dick encompassed the rape of a child, sexual assault, engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and causing a child to observe a sexual act. The case was initiated after a schoolgirl, who had confided in a family member about the abuse she endured, prompted police to investigate. The distressing disclosure led authorities to interview Dick, during which he vehemently denied all allegations, asserting his innocence.
Despite his denials, the evidence presented in court proved compelling. A jury deliberated and ultimately found Dick guilty of all four charges in November of the previous year. The case was brought before Newcastle Crown Court, where the judge handed down a sentence on Monday, March 17. Dick was sentenced to 14 years in prison, with an additional year on licence following his release, ensuring he remains under supervision for a significant period.
Furthermore, the court mandated that Dick be registered as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. To bolster the protection of the victim and prevent any further harm, authorities also issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Restraining Order, which restrict his contact with the victim and impose conditions aimed at safeguarding the community.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities in Gateshead to combat child abuse and ensure that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
