KENNETH BOAL SCANDAL SHOCKS EDINBURGH: TEACHER FOUND DEAD DAYS AFTER SEX OFFENDER SENTENCE

In a tragic turn of events, Kenneth Boal, a former deputy headteacher from Edinburgh, was discovered dead just three days after he was sentenced for serious sexual misconduct involving underage students.

The circumstances surrounding his sudden death remain unexplained, though authorities have confirmed that there is no suspicion of foul play.

Boal, who was responsible for child protection at a secondary school in West Lothian, was convicted of two sexual offences last month.

The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about his inappropriate behavior towards two teenage girls, which ultimately led to his conviction and sentencing.

Last week, at Livingston Sheriff Court, Boal was sentenced to 18 months of probation and was ordered to register as a sex offender.

The court also imposed a fine of £1,000 for each victim and mandated 220 hours of unpaid community service.

According to court reports, Boal, aged 55, had taken an unhealthy and inappropriate interest in the private lives of the two girls, both of whom were in their mid-teens at the time of the incidents.

One of the victims, a 15-year-old girl, testified that Boal told her he was 'getting excited' during their conversations.

She recounted that he said, 'I need to take a cold shower now,' after a particularly suggestive exchange.

The court heard that Boal had asked her classmates to rate her appearance out of ten, made lewd comments about her blouse being unbuttoned too far and revealing her cleavage, and criticized her skirt for being too short.

Boal, who resided in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, had previously been a well-regarded teacher with a salary of approximately £55,000 per year.

His resignation from his post came immediately after his conviction, raising concerns about his future employment prospects and pension entitlements.

The court was told that he faced the possibility of losing his local authority pension and being dismissed for gross misconduct.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that Boal had engaged in lewd, indecent, and libidinous practices towards the two girls, which spanned from 2006 to 2009.

The allegations included inappropriate questions about their sex lives, making sexually suggestive remarks, and asking the girls to rate their attractiveness.

One of the girls described how Boal remarked that her partner was 'a lucky man' and asked invasive questions such as, 'Does your boyfriend make you come?' and 'Do you enjoy it?' The defense argued that Boal's comments were part of a misguided attempt to act in a pastoral capacity, claiming that some remarks had been exaggerated or misunderstood.

However, the sheriff overseeing the case, Peter Hammond, found the evidence convincing and rejected the defense's claims.

He emphasized that Boal, as the head of child protection, was fully aware of appropriate boundaries and that his behavior was clearly inappropriate and criminal.

In his verdict, Sheriff Hammond stated that the evidence from the former pupils was credible and not exaggerated.

He highlighted that Boal's own admissions, including asking one girl whether her boyfriend made her 'come,' confirmed the sexual nature of his remarks.

The sheriff concluded that Boal's conduct was not due to naivety but was a deliberate breach of professional standards, amounting to criminal behavior.

As a result, Boal was found guilty of all charges and was immediately placed on the sex offenders' register.

The court scheduled his sentencing for September 12, when further details about the duration of his notification requirements will be provided.

Following his death, authorities have stated that the cause remains unknown, but there is no evidence to suggest any suspicious circumstances.

The tragic end of Kenneth Boal has sent shockwaves through the Edinburgh community, raising questions about the impact of his actions and the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.
