KEN CHIK AND TRACY CHOI FROM HULL SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC RAPE CAMPAIGN INVOLVING GIRLS AND WOMAN

In October 2021, a disturbing case unfolded at Hull Crown Court involving the heinous crimes committed by Ken Chik, a 63-year-old former police officer originally from Hong Kong, and Tracy Choi, aged 37, both residents of Hull.

The trial revealed a deeply troubling pattern of systematic sexual abuse carried out over an extended period, leaving victims with lasting psychological scars.

Ken Chik, who previously served as a Royal Hong Kong Police officer, was convicted of a total of 28 criminal offences after a rigorous four-week trial.

The charges included rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, engaging in sexual activities with minors, causing minors to participate in sexual acts, and acts of cruelty.

The court heard that Chik’s actions were part of a deliberate and calculated campaign of sexual violence, often involving premeditation and the strategic isolation of his victims to facilitate his abuse.

The victims, two young girls and a woman, endured severe emotional and psychological trauma as a result of Chik’s manipulative and domineering behavior.

Prosecutor Soheil Khan described the abuse as frequently planned, with Chik employing tactics to humiliate and degrade his victims.

The court was told that Chik sometimes resorted to physical violence to maintain control and silence his victims, who were explicitly told not to report the crimes to authorities.

One of the young girls, who kept a diary, expressed her suffering through a poignant entry, questioning why she hadn’t taken her own life to escape the pain.

Her words underscored the profound impact of the abuse, which left her with “disgusting, painful, sickening memories.” The court heard that the psychological harm inflicted was so severe that it caused her to experience flashbacks and feelings of worthlessness, shame, and internal scars that persist to this day.

Judge Mark Bury described Chik’s conduct as “systematic” and “extremely manipulative,” emphasizing that he exploited the vulnerabilities of his victims, especially the adult woman involved.

The judge characterized Chik as a “cruel, domineering, angry, and totally selfish man,” prone to violent mood swings, who cynically manipulated his victims for his own gratification.

The judge also highlighted that Chik’s offending was marked by significant coercion, humiliation, and a calculated effort to avoid detection, including threats that victims’ claims would be disbelieved.

Choi, who was convicted of six offences including rape and attempted rape, was found to have participated in some of the sexual acts.

The court acknowledged that she was also manipulated and coerced psychologically into her involvement.

Despite this, Judge Bury made it clear that her participation did not absolve her of responsibility, and she was also sentenced to eight years in prison.

Throughout the proceedings, victims provided compelling and heartbreaking testimonies, describing feelings of disgust, shame, and ongoing trauma.

One young girl recounted feeling “disgusting, dirty and ashamed,” and described how Ken Chik’s manipulative and controlling behavior left her scarred both externally and internally.

She spoke of suffering from traumatic flashbacks and waking up in a sweat, haunted by her memories.

The adult victim shared her ongoing struggles with fear and depression, revealing that she often experiences nightmares about falling from dark, high places, and feels unsafe in her daily life.

She described feeling worthless and unclean, a direct result of the abuse she endured.

Mitigating the sentence, Stephen Robinson acknowledged the severity of the crimes, emphasizing that it was a “campaign of rape” orchestrated by Chik, with little that could be said in his favor.

It was also noted that Chik suffers from health issues, including heart problems, which were considered during sentencing.

Julia Baggs, representing Tracy Choi, explained that Choi had come to Britain from Hong Kong at the age of 18 for educational purposes but was in the country illegally.

She faced the possibility of deportation and was aware of the lengthy custodial sentence she was likely to receive.

Both Chik and Choi are now required to register as sex offenders for life, and they are subject to an indefinite restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victims.

The case underscores the devastating impact of systematic sexual abuse and highlights the importance of justice for victims who endured such cruelty.
