KEMALATTIN KURT SENTENCED IN ENFIELD FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD NIGHTCLUB

In a case that has shocked the local community and highlighted the importance of vigilant police work, Kemalettin Kurt, a 28-year-old man from Woodstock Crescent in Enfield, has been sentenced to serve four years in prison for serious sexual offenses committed in central London. The conviction follows a detailed investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Sapphire team, which specializes in tackling sexual crimes and supporting victims.

On Monday, June 26, at Southwark Crown Court, Kurt appeared before the judge to face the consequences of his actions. The court heard that he was found guilty of sexual assault and assault by penetration after a rigorous four-day trial that concluded on May 22. As part of his sentence, Kurt will also be subject to a two-year extension on his licence, ensuring close monitoring of his conduct following his release. Additionally, he has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, a measure designed to protect the public and prevent future offenses.

The victim, a woman in her twenties, suffers from a sleep disorder that causes her to fall asleep suddenly and without warning. This condition made her particularly vulnerable during the incident. The events unfolded on the early hours of Sunday, October 27, 2019, after she had spent the evening out with friends at a nightclub located just off Tottenham Court Road. During the night, she was introduced to Kurt, and the two, along with her friends, enjoyed the night together at the club.

As the night drew to a close, the group decided to continue their gathering at a mutual friend's flat. By this time, it was approximately 4:00 a.m. The victim recalls feeling relaxed and eventually falling asleep on a sofa in the flat. Her friends, noticing her tiredness, carried her onto a bed and then left her to rest while they returned to the living room. It was during this period that Kurt entered the room while she was asleep and committed the assault. After the attack, he left the room and rejoined the others in the living area.

Once she regained full consciousness, the victim realized what had happened and immediately alerted her friends. She was visibly distressed and upset, and her friends supported her as she made her way home. Following the incident, she confided in other friends and subsequently reported the assault to the police. The investigation was swiftly taken up by officers from the Sapphire team, based at Charing Cross police station. A Sexual Offences Investigative Techniques (SOIT) officer was assigned to support her through the process.

The breakthrough in the case came when DNA evidence collected from the victim’s underwear matched Kurt’s genetic profile. This crucial evidence led to his arrest on Monday, November 4, 2019. Kurt was subsequently taken into custody and charged with the offenses.
