KELVIN STEVENTON FROM NEWPORT SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHREWSBURY
In a case that has shocked the local community of Newport, Kelvin Steventon, a married man and father of two, faced serious allegations related to the possession of indecent images of children.The incident came to light during a court hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, where the details of his offenses were thoroughly examined.
According to court records, Steventon was found to have accumulated a total of 134 images depicting children engaged in explicit acts.
Among these, two images were classified at the most severe level of indecency, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material.
The images ranged in age from as young as six months to 13 years old, with the majority of the photographs featuring children aged between two and three years old.
The victims included both male and female children, emphasizing the disturbing breadth of the material.
Prosecutor Mr.
Stephen Thomas outlined the case, stating that Steventon, aged 56 and residing on Chetwynd End in Newport, had admitted to five counts of making or possessing indecent images of children.
During police interviews, Steventon reportedly claimed that the images had been sent to him, and he had opened them without knowing their explicit content.
When questioned further after his computer was analyzed, he pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, indicating some level of remorse or acknowledgment of his actions.
In court, Steventon’s legal representative, Mr.
Dean Easthope, submitted a psychiatric report for consideration.
The report, which was not read aloud during the hearing, contained recommendations that the judge, Peter Barrie, took into account when passing sentence.
The judge ultimately decided on a community order lasting three years, which included supervision and a requirement to participate in a community service group work program.
Additionally, Steventon was issued a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for a period of ten years.
This order restricts his access to certain internet sites, aiming to prevent further offenses.
Judge Barrie emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that the images displayed significant features of sexual abuse and that Steventon had recognized that these crimes involved real children, not victimless acts.
