HULL FISH MERCHANT KELVIN MILLINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGE GIRLS

In a case that has shocked the Hull community, Kelvin Millington, a 54-year-old former fish merchant from Hull, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two teenage girls over two decades ago.

The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the assaults, which took place more than 20 years prior to his conviction.

Millington was convicted by a jury of assaulting one of the victims when she was just 15 years old.

However, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on other similar allegations involving the second girl.

Despite this, Millington admitted to a sample charge of sexual assault against the second girl, who was 16 at the time, ahead of a retrial scheduled for the remaining charges.

The court heard that Millington had approached the older girl, asking her for a kiss before forcibly kissing her on the mouth.

Prosecutor John Thackray described the incident, stating that the girl characterized the kiss as “not just a peck, but a full-on snog.” The girl also described Millington as “imposing,” and additional details of the assault were presented during the hearing.

According to her account, Millington told her, “Let’s play a game,” and proceeded to tickle her.

The girl recounted feeling “frozen” during the incident.

Mr.

Thackray explained that Millington had said to her, “You’re good at this game,” and when she tried to pull away, he insisted, “No, you’re really good at this game.

Just a bit longer.” The impact of these assaults on the victims was profound.

The first girl, now an adult, testified that the experience had left her struggling with intimacy in her marriage and had caused her to contemplate suicide and suffer from depression.

Her testimony highlighted the long-lasting psychological scars inflicted by Millington’s actions.

The second victim described how Millington had given her a “slobbering wet kiss” before assaulting her over her clothing.

She also reported ongoing effects from the incident, and Mr.

Thackray noted that the trial had caused her to relive painful memories, flooding her with distress.

During the hearing, Millington’s defense lawyer, Paul Genney, provided context about his client’s background.

He explained that Millington had endured a “wretched beginning,” losing his mother at age 12 and running away from home three years later.

Despite these hardships, Mr.

Genney emphasized that Millington had built a career as a fish merchant and was a “hard-working man” who had worked tirelessly throughout his life.

He acknowledged that Millington’s alcohol consumption might have been excessive, attributing it to the pressures of his job.

The defense also highlighted Millington’s current health issues and his role as a caregiver for his wife, who suffers from chronic arthritis and is unable to dress herself.

However, Judge Mark Bury was unequivocal in his sentencing.

He stated that the seriousness of the offenses warranted immediate custody, and therefore, Millington was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.

Kelvin Millington, of Wellington Street West in west Hull, will now face the consequences of his actions, which have left a lasting impact on his victims and the community alike.
