KELSEY BROOKES SENTENCED IN ROTHERHAM FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING VULNERABLE TEEN BOY

In a distressing case that has shocked the community of Rotherham, a young woman named Kelsey Brookes was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of multiple serious sex offences involving a vulnerable teenage boy.

The court heard how Brookes, aged 25, engaged in a series of inappropriate and illegal communications with the boy, who was only 15 at the time of the incidents and described as having the mental capacity of an 11-year-old.

Judge David Dixon presided over the case at Sheffield Crown Court, where he described the disturbing nature of Brookes' actions.

The judge stated, "You made explicit requests to, in effect, have sex with a child." He further detailed that Brookes had sent the boy videos of herself and photographs of herself in the shower, fully naked.

These actions were deemed highly inappropriate and indicative of a serious breach of trust and legal boundaries.

The court was informed that the boy, who is entitled to lifelong anonymity due to his age and vulnerability, was subjected to persistent and targeted communication from Brookes over several months.

Prosecutor Gurdial Singh revealed that Brookes contacted the boy’s phone a staggering 1,413 times, while the boy responded 2,467 times.

The messages exchanged included sexually explicit content, with some messages explicitly outlining what the pair wanted to do to each other.

Additionally, a graphic image of the boy’s genitals, which he had sent to Brookes, was found stored on her phone.

Judge Dixon emphasized that although no direct sexual activity was proven to have taken place between Brookes and the boy, the nature of their communication was sufficiently disturbing to warrant serious legal action.

The judge explained that he was obliged to sentence Brookes for the offence of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, based on the evidence of her communications.

However, he expressed doubts about whether her actions might have gone beyond mere incitement, given the explicit and manipulative content of her messages.

Brookes’ offending came to light after her phone was examined by authorities.

She was subsequently charged with three offences: causing or inciting a boy aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity with a child, and causing a child aged 13 to 15 to view or look at an image of sexual activity.

Brookes, who resides on Whitehill Road, Brinsworth, Rotherham, admitted to all three charges during the court proceedings.

During the hearing, her defense lawyer, Rebecca Randall, highlighted Brookes’ genuine remorse.

She pointed out that Brookes had expressed regret through her guilty pleas, written letters of recommendation, and a heartfelt letter to the court.

Ms.

Randall acknowledged that Brookes, who previously had no criminal record, was under extreme stress at the time of the offences, which she described as entirely out of character.

The defense also noted that Brookes’ mental health had significantly deteriorated, leading her to seek help from the mental health crisis team in April 2024.

As the sentence was handed down, both Brookes and her family, who were present in the courtroom, were visibly emotional and sobbing.

Judge Dixon sentenced her to 30 months in prison.

Additionally, he imposed a 15-year sexual harm prevention order, which will restrict her from using the internet freely and prohibit her from living in the same household as any boy under the age of 18 unless she obtains explicit permission from the relevant local authority.

The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Rotherham, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
