KELLY HARE OF WIGAN SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG BEBER IN HORRIFIC CASE

Kelly Marie Hare, born on March 27, 1985, and residing on Canberra Road in Wigan, has been found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to her pet dog, Bieber, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. The tragic case came to light after a series of investigations and court proceedings that revealed the extent of neglect and cruelty inflicted upon the animal.

Hare appeared before Wigan Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, where she pleaded guilty to charges related to her failure to care for Bieber properly. The court heard that between March 20 and April 10, 2018, Hare neglected her responsibilities as a pet owner by not investigating or addressing the deteriorating health and weight loss of Bieber. This prolonged period of neglect ultimately led to Bieber starving to death after suffering for months without intervention.

The case was brought to public attention following a call from a concerned member of the community, prompting an RSPCA inspector, Claire Fisher, to visit Hare’s residence. Upon arrival, Inspector Fisher discovered Bieber’s lifeless body in a shed located in Hare’s backyard, which was cluttered with rubbish. The inspector arrived approximately 36 minutes after the call but found that Bieber’s body had already been removed. During subsequent investigations, Hare was located at a nearby house, where she claimed ignorance about Bieber’s death and denied knowing the whereabouts of his remains.

The following day, however, police officers who had responded to a disturbance at Hare’s address informed the RSPCA that Bieber’s body had been buried nearby. Acting swiftly, investigators exhumed Bieber from a freshly dug grave at the location. The post-mortem examination revealed that Bieber was severely emaciated, indicating prolonged suffering. It was also discovered that he had ingested a wipe, possibly a baby wipe or cleaning wipe, measuring approximately 30cm by 12cm. The post-mortem concluded that Bieber had been dead for at least a week, and experts believe he endured at least three weeks of suffering before his death.

Despite multiple scheduled interviews with Hare, she failed to attend any of the appointments, leaving gaps in understanding the full timeline of Bieber’s decline. Inspector Fisher noted that the evidence suggests Bieber’s suffering was prolonged and tragic, highlighting the severity of Hare’s neglect.

In sentencing, Hare received a 12-month community order, which includes 220 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £485 in costs and a surcharge. Additionally, she was banned from keeping animals for ten years, a restriction that will remain in effect until September 2028. The case has drawn significant attention to animal cruelty issues in the Wigan area, emphasizing the importance of responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
