KEITH SARGENT JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN PLYMOUTH AND STONEHOUSE
In a recent court ruling at Plymouth Crown Court, Keith Sargent, a man from Plymouth, was convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving two young girls. The jury unanimously found Sargent guilty of six out of seven charges brought against him, which included two counts of indecent assault and four counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13.
The prosecution, led by Kelly Scrivener, detailed the nature of the crimes.
One of the charges involved Sargent inappropriately kissing the older girl in a manner that was clearly sexually motivated.
The remaining charges pertained to a series of sexual offenses committed against the younger girl, with incidents spanning over a period of two years.
These offenses included various forms of sexual assault, demonstrating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
During the trial, Malcolm Clarke, representing Sargent, stated that there was no mitigation to be offered, as his client had elected to face trial and had challenged the witnesses' testimonies.
Sargent, who is 45 years old, was described as unemployed and homeless at the time of his arrest.
His address was listed as George Place, Stonehouse, Plymouth.
Judge Graham Cottle addressed Sargent directly in court, noting that his conduct towards the younger girl over the two-year period constituted a continuous course of abusive behavior.
The judge emphasized that Sargent had assaulted the girl in multiple ways, highlighting the severity and persistence of his actions.
As a result of his convictions, Sargent was sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison.
Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order to restrict his future behavior and ordered him to inform the police of his address upon release from custody.
The sentencing underscores the serious nature of the crimes committed and the ongoing concern for public safety in the Plymouth area.
