HULL PAEDOPHILE KEITH MORRIS EXPLOITS KENYAN VILLAGE TO ABUSE YOUNG GIRLS
In a disturbing case that has shocked both the local community in Hull and the remote village in Kenya where the abuse took place, Keith Morris, a 72-year-old man from Hull, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual exploitation of vulnerable children. The court proceedings revealed a pattern of calculated manipulation and abuse that spanned over a year, during which Morris exploited his perceived position of trust within the Kenyan village to prey on young girls.
Between January 2016 and February 2017, Morris traveled to the Kilifi county area of Kenya, where he deliberately targeted the most vulnerable girls in the community.
The court heard that he chose two particularly weak girls, one of whom had a cleft lip and speech impediment, to carry out his predatory acts.
Morris’s abuse was not a one-time event; he raped one girl on more than 20 separate occasions, according to the evidence presented at Leeds Crown Court.
Known locally as ‘Mozzy,’ Morris had established a long-standing relationship with the families in the village over the course of two decades.
His interactions with the community were characterized by acts of generosity, including financial support, gifts, and assistance with building houses, funding education, and facilitating access to medical care at local clinics.
His efforts to integrate himself into the community earned him the respect of local elders, who believed him to be a benefactor.
However, beneath this facade of benevolence, Morris exploited his elevated social and financial status to gain access to the children.
The court heard that he used his granddaughter as a means to get closer to the girls, encouraging her to play with them and thereby facilitate his grooming process.
Morris even sought legal guardianship of one of the victims, although his application was ultimately denied.
Despite this, he used a draft of the guardianship document to deceive hotel staff when he took the girls on trips, further demonstrating his manipulative tactics.
The investigation into Morris’s activities was triggered after a British hotel guest raised concerns about his behavior towards one of the young girls.
This led to an international police operation, culminating in Morris’s arrest at Humberside Airport in February 2017 as he returned to the UK.
During a search of his home, authorities discovered a dictaphone containing recordings of phone conversations in which Morris attempted to coerce the victims into signing retraction statements, claiming the abuse had not occurred.
He also transferred money to associates in Kenya, allegedly to help prove his innocence, which resulted in additional charges of perverting the course of justice.
One of the victims, who was just 13 at the time of giving her statement, told police that Morris had taken her virginity and that the experience was extremely painful, causing her to cry.
The court was informed that Morris referred to the girl he raped as ‘sweetheart’ or ‘darling’ during their interactions.
Prosecutor Rupert Doswell emphasized that Morris’s integration into the community and his generous acts were exploited by him to facilitate his offending, with the court noting that he used his position of influence to groom and abuse the children.
In mitigation, Morris’s legal team argued that he had already suffered intimidation in prison and that his age would make custody particularly difficult.
They also highlighted that he had no previous convictions and claimed he did not accept the jury’s verdict.
However, Judge Mairs was unequivocal in his condemnation, stating that Morris had used his respectability as a cover for his sexual crimes.
The judge described how Morris had preyed upon the most vulnerable girls, including one with a speech impediment, and had even used his own granddaughter to gain access to the victims.
Sentencing Morris to 18 years and 6 months in prison, Judge Mairs emphasized the severity of his betrayal of trust.
He also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to protect potential future victims.
Throughout the proceedings, Morris sat motionless in the dock, dressed in a suit, as the court acknowledged the efforts of the officers involved in the international investigation that uncovered his crimes.
This case underscores the disturbing reality of how individuals can manipulate community trust for their own depraved purposes, and it highlights the importance of vigilance and thorough investigation in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation, both locally and abroad.
