KEITH MEHERS GILLINGHAM PERVERT ESCAPES JAIL AFTER UPSKIRTING AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE
In August 2021, Keith Mehers, a resident of Maple Way in Gillingham, narrowly avoided imprisonment after being convicted of multiple serious offences related to indecent images of children and upskirting.The case, which was heard at Bournemouth Crown Court, revealed disturbing details about Mehers’s criminal activities involving the exploitation of minors and the possession of highly illegal material.
Keith Mehers, aged 43, had previously admitted to six counts of possessing indecent images of children, two counts of operating equipment beneath clothing without consent, one count of possessing prohibited images, and one count of possessing extreme pornography.
His background included a promising athletic career in his youth, during which he earned a scholarship with Luton Town Football Club.
However, his reputation was marred by the serious allegations brought against him.
On August 20, the court proceedings culminated in a sentencing hearing where Judge Keith Cutler considered a pre-sentence report prepared by a probation officer.
Following the report’s recommendation, the judge decided against imposing a custodial sentence.
Instead, Mehers was handed a three-year community order, requiring him to undertake various rehabilitative measures and community service.
This decision was met with some relief from Mehers’s legal representatives, though the court emphasized the gravity of his offences.
Prosecutor Alec Williams outlined the investigation process, revealing that the National Crime Agency (NCA) had provided crucial intelligence to local police.
This intelligence was based on concerns raised by Google, which had flagged suspicious transactions linked to Mehers’s online activity.
Acting on this information, authorities executed a warrant at Mehers’s residence in January of the same year.
During the search, officers seized a Huawei mobile phone from Mehers, which became central to the investigation.
Further examination of the device uncovered a hidden folder named ‘vault,’ protected by security measures.
Accessing this folder revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images of children, totaling 2,257 images, including 333 classified as Category A—the most severe classification.
Among these were images depicting children as young as five, with some of the videos and photographs clearly filmed by Mehers himself.
The phone also contained 30 prohibited images that did not feature real individuals and a single extreme pornographic image.
The investigation also uncovered 23 separate moving images, distinct from the downloaded content, which appeared to be filmed by Mehers.
One particularly disturbing video showed Mehers ‘upskirting’ a girl believed to be no older than 14.
The footage was explicit enough to include a clear view of Mehers’s face, and the device was seen being placed under the girl’s skirt during the recording.
This footage was a key piece of evidence in the case, highlighting the defendant’s predatory behavior.
During sentencing, Judge Cutler described Mehers’s actions as “really vile and unpleasant,” emphasizing the shock and disgust felt by the court upon discovering the extent of his offending.
The judge noted that no one was aware of Mehers’s “really vile and unpleasant” secret until the investigation uncovered his illegal activities.
As part of his sentence, Mehers was ordered to complete a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program, placed on the sex offenders register, and subjected to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
These measures aim to monitor and restrict his activities to prevent further harm to the community.
