KEITH FENWICK'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN HULL: CHILD RAPE AND GROSSE PACKAGE SENDINGS LEAD TO 12-YEAR SENTENCE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Hull, Keith Fenwick, a man with a long history of criminal behavior, was convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving a young girl. The incidents, which spanned several years, included repeated sexual abuse of a minor and the subsequent sending of a grotesque package through the mail, adding a deeply disturbing layer to his offenses.
According to court proceedings at Hull Crown Court, Fenwick's victim was a young girl who was too young at the time to fully comprehend the gravity of what was happening to her.
The court heard that Fenwick, who was then an alcoholic paedophile, forcibly sexually abused her.
The trauma inflicted on her was profound, and she now fears that she may never fully recover from the emotional scars.
Prosecutor Geraldine Kelly explained that the girl did not initially understand that Fenwick’s actions were wrong, a realization that only came with age.
The abuse was not limited to physical acts; Fenwick also engaged in manipulative and coercive behavior.
Years after the abuse had ceased, Fenwick resumed contact with her through social media, specifically Facebook, where he began sending her sexual messages.
He also informed her that he had sent her a package, which she later discovered was grotesque and deeply upsetting.
Fenwick, now aged 63, expressed disturbing sentiments about his feelings for the girl, claiming he had “lovely memories of her” and that he kept thinking of her sexually, despite knowing that such thoughts were wrong.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Fenwick had previously given the girl alcohol and cigarettes, further exploiting her vulnerability.
He also instructed her to keep the abuse a secret, instilling fear and silence in her.
The victim, after confiding in a friend, was encouraged to report the abuse to the police.
However, she initially hesitated, feeling she lacked sufficient evidence.
It was only after she disclosed the Facebook messages to a professional that she decided to come forward.
Her victim statement, read aloud by Miss Kelly, detailed the ongoing psychological toll the abuse had taken.
She described feeling sick when recalling her police interview, experiencing frequent flashbacks, nightmares, and waking in tears.
She also revealed struggles with anger and emotional instability.
In her statement, she expressed her ongoing pain: “I struggle to be myself.
Even today, giving this statement, I struggle to open up to people.
I can’t see what life was like before the abuse.
I feel sometimes I’m always angry, but then I’m so sad.
I’m sad that it won’t get any better; that my life will always be like this.
I know I need to move on but it’s so hard knowing he’s still out there.” Keith Fenwick, of Holderness Road in east Hull, pleaded guilty to three counts of child rape, sexual assault of a child under 13, and another child sex offense.
His criminal record included previous convictions for handling stolen goods, burglary, criminal damage, and wounding.
When arrested, Fenwick claimed he believed police were contacting him about the package he had sent, and he described the victim as “wicked and cruel” as a child, alleging she was “always telling lies.” Judge Bryan Cox QC acknowledged the profound impact Fenwick’s actions had on his victim, describing the sending of the grotesque package as “grotesque” and deeply disturbing.
He emphasized the severity of the crimes and the lasting damage inflicted.
After considering all aspects of the case, the judge sentenced Fenwick to 12 years in prison, stating, “I have come to the conclusion, having carefully considered your case, that there must be a substantial prison sentence.” The sentence reflects the gravity of Fenwick’s offenses and the need for justice for his victim.
