KEIRON DEGNAN SHAW PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED FOR REPEATED ABUSE IN OLDHAM AND ASHTON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities, Keiron Degnan, a resident of Shaw, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for the heinous sexual exploitation of a young girl. The offences took place while Degnan was residing as a lodger at a friend’s house in Ashton, where he committed multiple acts of abuse over a prolonged period.

The incident came to light after the victim, a young girl, confided in her parents in May 2021 about the abuse she had endured. Following her disclosure, authorities were promptly notified, leading to an investigation that uncovered the extent of Degnan’s misconduct.

Degnan, aged 35 and living on Cowie Street in Shaw, appeared before Manchester Crown Court on Friday, 18 February. During the trial, he maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a female under 16 and one count of breaching his sex offender registration requirements. Despite his denial, the court found him guilty on all charges.

It was established that Degnan had previously admitted to one count of sexual activity with a minor, but the recent trial confirmed the allegations involving the same victim. The court heard that the abuse began in June 2019, when Degnan was living in Ashton. One evening, while the girl was watching television in the living room, he initiated a conversation that led to him performing a sexual act on her. Over the course of at least 16 months, Degnan engaged in full intercourse with the girl on multiple occasions.

The court also noted that Degnan was already under a sex offender notification requirement, which had been imposed in 2006 following a prior conviction for child sex offences. This meant he was legally obliged to register his details and adhere to certain restrictions, yet he continued to commit these grave offences.

The sentencing reflects the severity of his crimes and the ongoing concern for the safety of vulnerable minors in the community. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and swift action in protecting children from predators like Keiron Degnan, whose actions have caused lasting trauma to his young victim.
