KEIR CARR'S HORRIFIC CRUELTY IN DENNY AND FALKIRK: DOG STARVES TO DEATH
Keir Peter Carr, born on September 25, 1994, and residing at 13 Northfield Road in Denny, Falkirk FK6 6LA, has been found guilty of neglecting his dog to the point of death. The case highlights a tragic instance of animal cruelty that took place between January 29 and February 19, 2021, in the Falkirk area, specifically involving Carr’s dog, a four-year-old springer spaniel named Trigger.According to court reports, Carr, a father of three and owner of Cushty Carpets located at the Lecropt Business Hub on Crownest Loan in Stenhousemuir, Falkirk FK5 3BUS, failed to seek veterinary treatment for Trigger despite the dog’s deteriorating health. Carr’s neglect culminated in Trigger becoming severely emaciated, a condition so dire that the dog was ultimately euthanized. The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA) was alerted to the situation after a veterinarian at Champion Vets in Grangemouth expressed concern about the dog's condition.
When the Scottish SPCA officials examined Trigger’s remains, they discovered the dog’s body weighed only 12.9 kilograms, significantly below the expected weight of around 20 kilograms for a healthy springer spaniel. The animal was rated a one out of nine on the body condition scale, with one indicating the most severe level of emaciation. This stark evidence pointed to prolonged neglect and suffering.
Procurator Fiscal depute Amy Sneddon explained that further investigations confirmed Carr’s ownership of Trigger. The police became involved after these findings. Carr attempted to justify his neglect by claiming that Trigger had “difficulty with keeping food down,” but he admitted that he should have sought veterinary assistance much earlier to prevent the dog's suffering.
During the court proceedings, Carr pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to his dog, failing to seek veterinary advice, and neglecting to provide proper care and treatment. The court sentenced him to a fine of £340 and imposed a five-year ban on owning any animals, a restriction that will remain in effect until April 2028. This case underscores the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of neglect in the Falkirk and Denny communities, where such tragic incidents continue to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership.
