KEANE PYZER'S BRUTAL ATTACK ON POLICE DOG IN BRANSHOLME LEADS TO NEAR-FATAL INJURY

In a disturbing series of events that unfolded in the Bransholme area of Hull, Keane Pyzer, born on 25 March 2006 and residing on Amberley Close, was involved in a violent confrontation that culminated in him attacking a police dog and its handler with a shovel. The incident has shocked the local community and highlighted the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.

Pyzer had previously refused to pay for a taxi after being dropped off at his residence in Bransholme. This seemingly minor act escalated when he exited his home and launched an assault on the taxi with a shovel, prompting immediate police intervention. The authorities responded swiftly, and armed police officers were dispatched to the scene. They forcibly entered the house to apprehend Pyzer, who was found at the top of the stairs, shouting abusively and still wielding the weapon.

According to prosecutor John Bottomley, Pyzer threatened to kill the police dog upon seeing it, which added a dangerous dimension to the situation. The police dog handler, along with his canine partner, observed Pyzer at the top of the stairs, where he continued to be aggressive and threatening. Despite commands for him to comply, Pyzer refused and was warned about the consequences of his actions. The police dog was then sent upstairs to assist in the arrest.

Tragically, Pyzer struck the police dog with the shovel during the confrontation. As the police officer attempted to detain him, Pyzer raised the shovel above his head and made an aggressive attempt to swing it at the officer’s head. The officer raised his arms in defense but sustained a cut on his arm and subsequently fainted due to blood loss. Pyzer was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

The police dog, described by the handler as his “best mate,” suffered a bruise to its abdomen and required veterinary treatment. The incident could have resulted in severe injury or death for the animal, underscoring the brutality of the attack.

Pyzer’s criminal record is extensive, with 14 previous convictions, including two counts of assaulting emergency workers, possession of offensive weapons, affray, and threatening behavior—all from the previous year. He also admitted to charges of threatening behavior intended to cause distress, leaving a scene without paying, and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

In sentencing, Pyzer was handed a prison term of two years and eleven months to be served in a young offenders’ institution. The case has drawn significant attention to issues of youth violence and the risks faced by law enforcement personnel in their efforts to maintain public safety in Hull and beyond.
