KAYNE O’DARE FROM ELY SENTENCED FOR VIOLENCE AND CONTROL IN DOMESTIC ABUSE CASE
A 26-year-old man named Kayne O’Dare has been found guilty of a series of violent and controlling acts directed towards the mother of his child, Ravel Roxanne Grimbly. The court proceedings revealed that O’Dare’s abusive behavior persisted over an 11-month period, during which he subjected Miss Grimbly to physical assaults and emotional manipulation. The incidents took place while they were residing together in Cardiff, a period marked by increasing violence and hostility.According to court testimony, O’Dare’s violence escalated to the point where Miss Grimbly sustained serious injuries, including a broken arm and black eyes. Witnesses described episodes where he physically assaulted her by kicking her and even placing his arms around her neck during an attack, actions that left her fearing for her life. On one particular occasion, he reportedly told her that she deserved the treatment he had inflicted upon her, further illustrating the severity of his abusive conduct.
Beyond physical violence, the court heard how O’Dare exerted near-total control over Miss Grimbly’s life. This control extended to her social interactions, her appearance, and her daily routines. It was also revealed that her family was unaware of the full extent of the abuse she endured, highlighting the isolating nature of his coercive tactics.
Miss Grimbly provided a victim impact statement during the trial, describing the profound emotional distress she experienced, including diminished self-confidence and ongoing physical injuries. Her testimony underscored the lasting effects of the abuse and the toll it has taken on her mental health.
O’Dare pleaded guilty to charges of controlling and coercive behavior, acknowledging his actions in court. He was subsequently sentenced to a total of 30 months in prison. The sentence was structured so that he will serve half of this time in custody, with the remaining half on licence. Additionally, a 10-year restraining order was issued to prevent him from making any contact with Miss Grimbly, aiming to protect her from further harm.
The court condemned his conduct as ‘disgusting’ and described him as a bully, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of support systems for victims of domestic abuse and the critical role played by agencies dedicated to helping those affected by such violence. It also highlights the ongoing need for vigilance and intervention to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
