PERTH MAN JAILED FOR VICIOUS ASSAULT ON EX-GIRLFRIEND
The offender, Kaya Bartle, was jailed for 29 months after he sat on his former partner and brutally assaulted her, resulting in fractures to her jaw, nose, and both eye sockets. The attack occurred at St Catherine’s Square, Perth, on February 17 this year.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Bartle, who has a history of violence, began punching his partner repeatedly during an argument linked to her infidelity.
He then pulled her to the ground, sat on her chest, and continued to punch her.
The victim, despite being terrified, was praised for her bravery in giving evidence against him, especially since she was too afraid to attend the trial initially.
Her sister contacted the police, and she mouthed to officers that Bartle was responsible.
The justice system recognized her resilience, with Sheriff William Wood noting she had recovered well enough to face her abuser in court, emphasizing the severity and persistence of the assault.
The defense claimed that the incident was a result of an argument after discovering her infidelity and that Bartle was ashamed of his actions.
Community and victim support groups also commended her courage, underscoring the trauma involved in such cases.
