KATRIANNA RICH'S HORRIBLE CRUELTY IN PEASEDOWN ST JOHN REVEALED

Katrianna Jade Rich, a smallholder from Peasedown St John, Bath, was found guilty in 2023 of severe animal welfare offenses after a prolonged period of neglect that resulted in the suffering and starvation of a horse named Murphy. Rich, born on May 4, 1994, and residing at 4 Lower Peasedown, was responsible for the care of multiple animals, including horses, sheep, and goats, on her smallholding. Her neglectful actions came to light following an inspection by the RSPCA, which was prompted by welfare concerns raised by members of the public.

On February 9, 2023, RSPCA Inspector Daniel Hatfield, accompanied by a field officer from World Horse Welfare, visited Rich’s property. During their visit, they discovered Murphy, a horse that was visibly in poor health despite being covered with three rugs. Inspector Hatfield described the scene, stating, “I could still easily see his hip bones sticking through the rugs, appearing in really poor body condition. Once the rugs were removed, it was clear just how emaciated he was.”

Murphy’s condition was alarming; his ribs, hips, and spine were easily visible, and he appeared extremely depressed, with his head lowered and showing noticeable dips in the sides of his head. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the inspectors called in a veterinarian to examine Murphy. The vet confirmed that the horse was severely underweight, with a body condition score of just 0.5 out of 5, indicating extreme emaciation.

Further examination revealed that Murphy’s feet were in poor condition, with overgrown hooves impacted by debris, including embedded stones. His dental health was also compromised, with a fractured tooth among other issues. The veterinarian certified Murphy as suffering and in need of urgent care. The police subsequently took possession of the horse, and he was transferred into the care of the RSPCA for treatment and rehabilitation.

Additional tests showed Murphy had a high worm burden, but there were no other underlying health issues to explain his poor condition, aside from the prolonged period of starvation. Under the care of the RSPCA, Murphy responded well to a proper diet and gradually gained weight, demonstrating the potential for recovery with appropriate treatment.

Katrianna Rich was prosecuted solely in relation to Murphy’s case. She was sentenced to a nine-week curfew, ordered to pay £400 in costs, and was banned from keeping horses for ten years. The case received coverage from the Midsomer Norton, Radstock & District Journal, BBC News, and ITV News.

While the legal proceedings focused on Murphy, social media evidence suggests that Rich may have neglected other horses as well, raising concerns about her overall animal care practices. Rich is also known to work as a self-employed beautician and manicurist, operating under the names Rich’s Beauty Den and Katrianna Pinup Parlour. Additionally, she offers pet services through The Smallholder Fairy Pet Services & Groomer and Canis Canine, which adds a troubling dimension to her profile as an animal caregiver.
