WOMAN BANNED FROM KEEPING ANIMALS AFTER STARVING HORSES
A woman who caused the suffering of five horses has been sentenced for her actions.
Karen Woods of Ashby St Mary, Norfolk, was convicted on five counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
At Norwich Magistrates' Court, Woods, aged 49, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, though this sentence was suspended for two years.
Additionally, she must complete a 150-hour community punishment order.
It was reported that one of the horses was so malnourished that it had to be euthanized.
The magistrate, District Judge Philip Browning, stated that Woods was "unfit to keep animals".
The offenses took place between August 9 and September 6, 2006, with the court highlighting her role in the mistreatment that led to the horses' suffering and death.
