January 1998 Pervert nurse struck off A nurse convicted of attempted rape and indecent assault has been struck off the national nursing register following a misconduct hearing eight years after he qualified. Paedophile Karel Simacek, 54, of Lane Ends, Cowling, is serving a four-year prison sentence imposed at York Crown Court last May for child abuse. He admitted attempting to rape a girl, indecent assault and indecency with a child aged between eight and 11 – more than 20 years ago. The UK Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting found Simacek guilty of misconduct and removed him from the register. It means he is no longer allowed to call himself a registered nurse or practice in the profession. A spokesman for the nursing council said: “This demonstrates the UKCC’s determination to ensure that the public is protected from those practitioners who have been convicted of serious crime.” The hearing heard that his victim, now aged 29, came forward when her own daughter reached the age of seven – the age she was when Simacek’s abuse began. Detective Constable Robert Moore, of North Yorkshire police, said it was quite usual for an abuse victim to come forward with information years after the incident. Simacek was working at his father’s business providing salad vegetables for cafes and delicatessens when his victim was introduced to him by her playmate. “From the age of seven to 11 the abuse was taking place on a daily basis,” said Det Con. Moore. At the time of his arrest Simacek was not working but he had been registered with a nursing agency in Leeds.
