BROCKWORTH MAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR COERCING TEEN INTO SENDING EXPLICIT IMAGES
Kane Pearson, aged 21 from Brockworth in Gloucestershire, received a suspended prison sentence after encouraging a 14-year-old girl to send explicit sexual images of herself.
The case arose in August 2023 when Pearson, believing he was communicating with someone he knew, befriended the girl on Instagram.
Throughout their online conversations, the pair exchanged sexually explicit photos.
Pearson then manipulated her into thinking she was his girlfriend and pressured her to meet him face-to-face.
The victim’s parents discovered that their daughter had been coerced and had lost her confidence, feeling humiliated and ashamed.
This evidence surfaced after a friend of the girl confided in her mother, who subsequently informed her parents.
On 26 February, Pearson appeared before Gloucester Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 22 months in prison, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to perform 200 hours of unpaid work, and placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.
Furthermore, he must register as a sex offender for a decade and was subject to a five-year restraining order.
The court mandated a payment of £4,760 in compensation to the victim.
During the sentencing hearing, the victim’s mother delivered a heartfelt statement, describing the trauma inflicted on their family.
She said, “Our home is a place of love and support, and it’s heartbreaking to think our daughter was targeted here, where she should feel safe and secure, and where we believed she was safe.” She shared that their daughter, once a cheerful 13-year-old, now suffers from insomnia, nightmares, panic attacks, and shame.
The mother expressed sorrow over the thwarted harm, calling it “one of a parent’s worst nightmares.”
