JASON WOOD OF BROCKWORTH SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR SEX OFFENCES IN GLOUCESTER
In November 2008, Jason Wood, aged 34 and from Brockworth, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offences against a girl. Judge Mark Horton told Wood during his sentencing at Gloucester Crown Court that he showed “not one scintilla” of emotion or concern for his victim during a week-long trial.Following three days of deliberation, the jury convicted Wood of all 17 charges of rape and sexual assault that he had denied, with three of these verdicts reached by majority.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Horton described Wood’s conduct as “a dark and devious and perverted and very deliberate course of conduct.” He further stated that he believed Wood often resided in “a dark, perverted world,” obsessed with pornographic material that defied sane description. The judge noted that Wood had also shown his victim material intended to persuade her that such behaviour was normal.
The trial revealed how Wood subjected the girl to a shocking array of sexual offences. At one point, he forced her to perform a sex act on him and encouraged her to remove her clothes while he did the same, the court heard.
Despite the convictions, Wood maintained his innocence, denying all allegations and claiming the offences had not occurred.
Following the verdicts, Wood’s solicitor, Nadeem Aulleybocus, commented that his client had no previous convictions of a similar nature and had cooperated fully with police. Aulleybocus mentioned that Wood, who recently married in October of that year, found the legal proceedings “atrocious.” He also noted that Wood had aspirations to pursue a career in computing, which appeared unlikely now.
In addition to his 15-year incarceration, Wood was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) with strict conditions. He is also prohibited from owning a computer or any device with internet access and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
