KANE PEARCE FROM NEWPORT CAUGHT IN SEXUAL PREDATION PLOT INVOLVING LOCAL SCHOOLGIRL
In February 2020, a disturbing case unfolded involving Kane Pearce, a 26-year-old resident of York Place, Newport, who became entangled in a serious criminal investigation related to online child exploitation.Pearce was targeted through an operation orchestrated by the organization Justice4Kids, which aims to combat online child abuse by setting up sting operations involving decoys posing as minors.
According to the court proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, Pearce was actively engaging in communication with what he believed was a 14-year-old schoolgirl.
The decoy, operated by a child protection group volunteer, was part of an entrapment effort designed to catch individuals attempting to initiate sexual conversations with minors.
Prosecutor Susan Ferrier detailed how Pearce, during the interaction, was drinking heavily—specifically, consuming approximately 12 cans of Stella Artois lager daily—while making contact with the decoy.
During the online exchange, Pearce was led to believe he was speaking with a young girl named Patsy.
The defendant openly expressed his attraction to young girls, stating that he loved them and claiming to be an assistant teacher who worked with 'naughty pupils.' The decoy, posing as Patsy, mentioned her grandmother living in Pontypridd, to which Pearce responded with a suggestion of having 'fun.' When asked directly if he knew she was only 14 years old, Pearce responded affirmatively, saying, 'Yeah babe, 14 OK.' Following his arrest, Pearce admitted to police that his drinking habits were extensive, revealing that he consumed most of his daily alcohol intake during the day.
His previous criminal record includes a 32-month prison sentence handed down in 2017 for robbery.
This prior conviction underscores a pattern of criminal behavior.
In court, Judge Michael Fitton QC sentenced Pearce to eight months in prison, though the term was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period.
Pearce was also ordered to complete the Horizon sex offender treatment program and participate in a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
Additionally, he is mandated to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect until 2031.
As part of his sentence, Pearce, who is a recipient of benefits, was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £156 and contribute £85 towards prosecution costs.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to address and prevent online child exploitation, emphasizing the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community involvement in protecting vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
